What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a OneSAF Simulation Operator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a OneSAF Simulation Operator, you need a solid understanding of military operations, scenario development, and simulation principles, often supported by experience in defense or military training environments. Familiarity with the OneSAF software suite, networked simulation environments, and related technical certifications (such as CompTIA Security+ for secure environments) is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with teams and accurately interpreting training requirements. These competencies ensure realistic, effective simulations that support mission readiness and successful training outcomes.

What are Onesaf operators and what do they do?

Onesaf operators are professionals who manage and utilize the One Semi-Automated Forces (OneSAF) simulation software, primarily used for military training and analysis. Their main responsibilities include configuring, running, and overseeing military simulations to support training exercises, mission planning, and experimentation. They may also assist in scenario development, data collection, and performance analysis to ensure realistic and effective training outcomes.

What are some common challenges faced by ONESAF simulation operators, and how can they be addressed?

ONESAF simulation operators often encounter challenges such as troubleshooting software integration issues, ensuring scenario realism, and effectively coordinating with subject matter experts. Familiarity with ONESAF architecture and regular collaboration with developers and end-users can help smooth out technical difficulties. Staying current with updates and participating in training sessions also improve efficiency and scenario accuracy, making it easier to adapt to evolving simulation requirements.

Job description

Job Description

Verity was founded with a focus on providing advanced science and technology and business management services to commercial and government clients. Our team comprises engineers and analysts with subject matter expertise in various domains, including software development, simulation technologies, experimentation support tools, and systems analysis methodologies. Additionally, we have applied our expertise in evaluating, analyzing, and simulating emerging threats. These capabilities have been successfully applied to not only Science and Technology (S&T) programs, but also major weapon system acquisition programs and gap-filling warfighter solutions.

We are seeking a Senior Modeling & Simulation Engineer to support cutting-edge simulation development across Air and Missile Defense and Long-Range Fires domains. This is an opportunity to make a direct impact on mission-critical defense programs while working in a collaborative, mission-focused environment.

Position Overview

You'll work independently to design, develop, and maintain high-fidelity simulations of military systems as part of a larger project or program. This role requires strong software engineering fundamentals combined with experience developing physics-based or behavior-based models of real-world defense systems. You'll take ownership of your work with minimal supervision, contributing meaningfully across the full simulation development lifecycle - from requirements and design through implementation and test.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently design, develop, and maintain simulation models of military systems including radars, Command and Control (C2) systems, and flight models for missiles and/or aircraft
  • Develop high-performance simulation software using C++ and/or Rust
  • Translate system requirements, technical documents, and domain knowledge into accurate, validated simulation components
  • Perform unit and integration testing to verify model fidelity and correctness
  • Produce clear technical documentation covering design, implementation, and test
  • Integrate simulation components into larger simulation architectures and frameworks
  • Support analysis and experimentation efforts using simulation-based tooling
  • Participate in Agile workflows including code reviews, version control (Git/GitLab), and task planning

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional software development experience with a significant focus on modeling and simulation
  • Proficiency in C++ and/or Rust for performance-sensitive simulation development
  • Experience developing models of real-world physical or military systems (e.g., radar, guidance systems, flight dynamics, or C2)
  • Ability to work independently, manage assigned tasks, and deliver quality software with minimal supervision
  • Experience with version control systems (Git/GitLab)
  • Familiarity with Agile development practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Air and Missile Defense, Long Range Fires, or related defense domains
  • Familiarity with DoD M&S frameworks, standards, or simulation architectures (e.g., DIS, HLA, AFSIM, OneSAF, or similar)
  • Understanding of radar phenomenology, C2 architectures, or 6-DOF/3-DOF flight modeling
  • Active security clearance or ability to obtain one
