What does a Education Tutor – One-on-One do?

As a Full-Time Education Tutor at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, you will play a vital role in supporting American Indian students from grades K through 12 under the guidance of the Education Advisor and the Education Manager. What we're looking for in a Education Tutor – One-on-One

To thrive as a Full-Time Education Tutor with the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, you must possess a strong foundation in key academic subjects, particularly Mathematics, English, and Reading. A high school diploma is required, while an associate's degree is preferred. Excellent communication skills are essential for effectively collaborating with students, staff, teachers, and parents, ensuring you can build trust and rapport with the community you serve. Experience in helping students with chronic absenteeism, academic challenges, or behavioral issues is highly advantageous, as you will focus on individualized support for those in need.

Familiarity with educational software or tools that aid in tracking student progress and submitting weekly reports will also enhance your effectiveness in this role. Your ability to engage with the Tribal Education Advisors and participate in monthly Education Staff Meetings will foster a collaborative and enriching environment, ultimately benefiting the students you tutor.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • Tutor students in Grades K-12 during the After-School Program; school subjects with an emphasis in Mathematics, English and Reading.
  • Tutors will work with the Tribal Education Advisors, Student Family Advisors, and Truancy Officer on referrals for one-on-one tutoring.
  • Submit weekly reports to the Education Advisor; participate in monthly Education Staff Meetings.
  • Will participate in other educational related activities
  • Provide one-on-one tutoring for students with chronic absenteeism, academic failure, behavioral issues and truancy.
  • Applicants must have a high school diploma, associate’s degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with Indian students, staff, teachers and parents.
  • Applicants must have strong academic skills in Math, English, History and Reading.
