Job Brief
Lineman
Position: Lineman, Temporary
Location: Dugway Proving Ground
Summary: Installation, repair, and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical power lines and auxiliary equipment, inspect pole mounted and pad mounted transformers, installs meters, operate bucket truck or climbs poles to repair overhead lines and inspect power lines for repairs and replacement.
Qualifications: At least 2 years' experience as a Lineman, with at least 1 year of experience acquired through training under a formal apprenticeship or equivalent.
Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent work experience.
Purpose of Classification: Service, repair, and maintain overhead and underground electrical power lines, electrical substations, and transformers for the entire Dugway area. Work is to be performed in accordance with the Dugway Proving Ground PWS, and the National Electrical Code. The Lineman is required to be on a rotating on-call schedule. Night and weekend work may be required.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Works with minimal supervision and guidance
• Respond to service calls within the allowable timeframe
• Participation in Quality Control and Safety Program
• Able to decipher and repair electrical problems
• Working from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications to locate and diagnose issues in electrical system or equipment
• Strict adherence to the Lock Out Tag Out Program as well as all safety procedures
• Operation of diggers, bucket trucks, and hand tools near and around electrical distribution lines
• Locate overhead and underground electrical cable faults for repair and maintenance
• Read and interpret wiring diagrams
• Installs primary and secondary overhead and underground electrical systems
• Conduct work outdoors in various types of weather
• Other duties as assigned
Special Knowledge / Skills Required:
• Possesses excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, organizational, and analytical skills
• Must be well versed with the NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace
• CPR and First Aid Certification
• Must have a valid State Commercial Driver's License
• Must be able to listen with comprehension to assist customers with problems
• Ability to use good judgment and common sense when performing job functions, ability to follow written and verbal instructions, ability to be punctual, patience to work under stressful conditions
• Lifting weight up to seventy (70) pounds is required
• Able to work under possible uncomfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors such as temperature variations, odors, and weather are a factor
