Job description

The Social Commerce team is building a new way for game developers to sell in-game items on the platform where players and their friends already hang out, before, during, and after play. By meeting players where they are, developers reach far beyond their own communities, and players can now find, buy, and gift items directly from Discord, across chat, wishlists, and official game servers.

As a senior product designer on the Social Commerce team, you'll design what this experience looks and feels like across every surface of the product. Your designs will span the entire Discord product, working closely with game developers, product, and engineering to create win-win experiences for players and developers alike. If you want to build a new category of commerce at a platform used by hundreds of millions of people, this is the role.

What you'll be doing
  • You will embed within a product squad and partner with engineers, product managers, researchers, and data scientists to oversee the user experience of a product from concept to launch, and then continue to improve it after release.
  • You will create wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and help implement your designs to pixel perfection. You will also quality check all of your work as it is built, ensuring it reflects your vision.
  • You will own the bar for craft, execution and production quality for your immediate product team, and proactively identify opportunities to uplevel the quality of your work in production as you playtest.
  • You will actively influence your team's roadmap with a deep understanding of the product space, acting as a thought leader with your XFN leads in defining the "how" of the product strategy.
  • You will present your designs to the team and the greater organization to drive alignment around your work.
  • You will identify gaps or improvements for our design system and contribute UX and design patterns that address design debt, and are adopted across the design organization.
  • You will be an active peer and participant in your organization's design team and culture, sharing/contributing often and proactively in critiques and in general channels to encourage a culture of open feedback and active support.
What you should have
  • 5+ years of experience developing and leading design on central end-to-end consumer products across a variety of platforms (web, mobile, desktop, console, etc). Additionally, you have been the design lead for a squad, feature, initiative, and team and are comfortable making design decisions, leading discussion, and communicating out to the wider organization.
  • Experience working on an e-commerce product or platform.
  • Expert-level experience with Figma and a high-fidelity prototyping tools, and confidence in utilizing AI to create prototypes.
  • Strong product thinking and strategic vision, with the ability to translate complex business requirements into intuitive user experiences. Adept at articulating the rationale behind design decisions and their alignment with broader product goals.
  • Mastery of design craft, including typography, color theory, layout principles, and interaction design. Committed to pixel-perfect execution and have a keen eye for subtle details that enhance user experience. You have a high level of skill at crafting high quality visual designs and have an eye for creating delight in every product experience.
  • Compelling storytelling skills across multiple mediums with consistent experience pitching and influencing design decisions across peers, immediate team members and organization leadership.
  • Strong, proactive communication skills, forming ideas and presenting them to your cross-functional team to develop product strategy and roadmaps.
  • A desire to deeply understand the "why" before defining the "how" and use it to develop a strategic product perspective, and vision. Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation, with the ability to leverage quantitative and qualitative data to inform design decisions and measure the impact of design changes on key metrics.
  • Experience working with, and actively contributing to a design system with components of sub-system languages.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $188,000 to $211,500 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include equity, or benefits.
