Job description

Cytogenetic Technologist

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina

Duties:
  • Performs sample set up, harvesting, slide preparation, staining, microscopic analysis, photography, karyotyping, and FISH analysis.
  • Ensures specimen integrity during all processing phases.
  • Conducts various culturing procedures including blood, bone marrow, and biopsy cultures.
  • Performs slide preparations and staining techniques.
  • Conducts detailed microscopic analysis and FISH processing.
  • Manages record keeping, stock supply levels, and educates lab personnel.
  • Coordinates with colleagues and maintains quality control of culture apparatus.
  • Stays informed about cytogenetics field developments and performs validation studies.
Skills:
  • Long periods of sitting and standing during procedures.
  • Manual dexterity and ability to work with biohazardous materials.
  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Science, Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP or equivalent), or Technologist in Cytogenetics (ASCP or equivalent) required.
Required License and/or Certification:
  • CG(ASCP) required.
Skills Needed:
  • Previous FISH Analysis, Chromosome Analysis (blood and bone marrow), and Cytogenetics Wet Bench Setup experience preferred.
