Location & Schedule

In this position, you can expect to work from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with rotating weekend shifts and on-call availability approximately every 4-5 weeks. The home base for this position will be 5440 Roslyn St., Denver, CO 80216. The evening shift has a 7% shift differential.

The DOTI Transportation Operations Team is seeking a determined and hardworking individual to serve as a Traffic Signal Technician III. The Transportation Operations Team is responsible for the operation, maintenance, installation, and emergency repair of traffic control devices. They maintain a fiber optic communication network providing services to the DOTI Information Technology Division and Denver Police Department. They also operate the Transportation Management Center and are responsible for signals, electronics repair, utility locates, sign installation, sign manufacturing, and pavement markings. Our team are stewards of safety in a traffic-controlled work zone. This job environment is working with crew members who are punctual and thrive in a team setting. Commitment and being at work on time is essential.

Specifically, as the Traffic Signal Technician III, you will:

  • Act as an expert technician on the maintenance team and assist other technicians with questions and common problems
  • Lead complex installation, construction, maintenance, and repair of traffic signal systems and devices (wiring, conduit, poles, signal heads, controllers, switches, and vehicle detectors)
  • Inspect, remove, and repair signal control and auxiliary equipment such as traffic signal controllers and cabinets, vehicle and pedestrian head assemblies, and street lighting and circuitry devices and systems.
  • Adjust, repair, replace, and modify electric and mechanical components, controllers, relays, switches, fuses, timers, and other related parts and equipment.
  • Monitor and program traffic signal timing controllers and make necessary adjustments
  • Investigate complaints and report defective traffic signals and associated equipment
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Operate vehicles and perform pre-trip inspection to ensure proper functioning

What You'll Bring

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • IMSA Traffic Signal Level III Certification (preferred, not required).
  • Schedule flexibility, including the ability to work nights, rotating weekend shifts, and on-call availability for emergencies and inclement weather.
  • Current CDL B
  • Strong motivation to learn and willing to take on various tasks to enhance their career and grow with the team.
  • Desire to teach and train newer technicians and act as a subject matter expert on the team
  • Team-focused work ethic that focuses on punctuality, flexibility, and innovation.

Applicants for commercial driving positions must demonstrate proficiency in the English language. Commercial drivers must be able to do the following in English:

  • Converse with the general public
  • Understand highway traffic signs and signals
  • Respond to official inquiries
  • Make entries on reports and records

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
  • Experience Requirement: Four (4) years of experience in traffic signal installation, construction, maintenance, or repair
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement
  • Licenses/Certifications: This job requires driving. Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application
  • Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with appropriate endorsements by the end of probation. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
