Work EnvironmentHealthcare facilities, clinics, hospitalsClinics, outpatient settings, hospitals
Job ResponsibilitiesTechnical support, equipment management, patient data entryPatient care, administrative tasks, clinical support

The roles often overlap in healthcare settings but differ in primary responsibilities and required certifications.

What are the typical responsibilities of an On Call Lxmo during a shift, and how do they collaborate with other healthcare professionals?

As an On Call Limited X-ray Machine Operator (Lxmo), your main responsibilities include performing basic diagnostic imaging procedures, maintaining equipment, and ensuring patient comfort and safety during exams. On-call status means you'll respond to urgent imaging needs, often working evenings, nights, or weekends. Collaboration is key—you'll work closely with radiologists, nurses, and physicians to deliver timely results, and communicate effectively to ensure accurate patient care. Flexibility and strong organizational skills are important, as you may handle multiple tasks or patients in a fast-paced environment.

What is an On Call LXMO?

An On Call LXMO stands for Limited X-ray Machine Operator who works on an as-needed basis, filling in shifts or covering absences rather than having a regular, full-time schedule. LXMOs are trained and licensed to perform basic diagnostic X-ray imaging under the supervision of a radiologic technologist or physician. The 'on call' aspect means they must be available to work during off-hours, weekends, or whenever their services are required at a healthcare facility. This role requires flexibility, technical competence, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced medical environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an On Call Limited X-ray Machine Operator (Lxmo), and why are they important?

To thrive as an On Call Limited X-ray Machine Operator (Lxmo), you need a solid understanding of radiographic procedures, anatomy, and safety protocols, typically supported by completion of a state-approved Lxmo program and licensure. Familiarity with digital radiography systems, Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), and adherence to radiation safety standards is essential. Attention to detail, adaptability, and effective communication with patients and healthcare teams are standout soft skills in this role. These abilities ensure safe, accurate imaging that supports timely diagnosis and patient care in dynamic healthcare environments.
