Harvard Recreation, managed by HealthFitness, is looking for experienced, enthusiastic American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructors to lead Lifeguarding certification courses on campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
In this role, you'll bring your expertise and passion to the pool deck-providing high-quality instruction, leadership, and hands-on training while ensuring the safety and success of every participant.
This is an on-call position, ideal for instructors seeking flexible work scheduled around certification courses.
Key Accountabilities
  • Communicates promptly regarding teaching availability, class assignments, and class planning preparations.
  • Plans and organizes personal class teaching outlines, methods and goals that support the general teaching outlines provided by the American Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR programs.
  • Organizes and directs activities of assigned participants to provide a high level of quality instruction for all students.
  • Supervising participants while they are practicing course skills and providing timely, positive, and corrective feedback as they learn.
  • Evaluating participants as they perform skills, focusing on critical performance steps as described in the American Red Cross skill charts.
  • Teaching course as designed -- following all course outlines, policies and procedures as noted in the instructor course documents.
  • Creating a non-threatening environment that is conducive to achieving the learning objectives.
  • Other duties as needed/assigned.

Minimum Requirements
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
  • Current American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid for the Professional Rescuer certification.
  • Ability to react to emergency situations by quick movements, strenuous activity, and on occasion assist or lift persons in distress of varying weights.
  • Ability to interact with people of all ages in a positive manner.
  • Demonstrates top notch instruction and possess excellent motivational skills.
  • Ability to navigate electronic onboarding and timecard systems required.

Compensation: $30 - $35/hour. Pay is dependent on experience and qualifications.
