QUALIFICATIONS

  • Required: Current valid licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Connecticut.
  • Required- Supervisory experience, preferably in a clinical setting.
  • Required: Minimum of 3 years' experience in a like population served.
  • Required: Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Required: Bachelor's degree with Associates or bachelor's in nursing.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in nursing, or master's degree in related healthcare field, management, business administration or current matriculation.
  • Preferred: Valid/current BLS Healthcare Provider or equivalent.

JOB SUMMARY

The Clinical Manager consistently applies the core values and high reliability principles in the constant pursuit of excellence, improving the health status of the patient population served and improving employee work-life. As a member of hospital leadership, effectively collaborates with appropriate clinical disciplines to achieve a safe and optimal patient care experience for an identified patient population. This leader has 24-hour accountability for the coordination and continued oversight of assigned area to facilitate effective, efficient and patient centered care delivery. He/she is responsible for the effective management of human and fiscal resources for assigned unit/s of care. He/she is responsible for monitoring and evaluating patient outcomes through the organizational quality improvement plan and as member of the leadership team works collaboratively to effectively action plan. He/she is cognizant of, accountable to and adheres to, standards established by regulatory and accrediting agencies and the hospital. The Clinical Manager supports and establishes strategies to meet the HSC/CSC strategic plan and organizational goals.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Job requires standing occasionally for brief (15 min) periods. Job mostly sedentary, sitting at a desk function or at meetings up to but usually no greater than 120 minutes at a time.
  • Job involves carrying of documents, books, chairs or small equipment (i.e. audiovisual) items.
  • Reaching and bending is as related to accessing file drawers and shelves for documents, positions would be sustained for no greater than 15 minutes.
  • Fine manipulation is required as related to writing, graphing or computer usage.

COGNITIVE DEMANDS

  • Position requires independent problem identification, abstract reasoning, and adaptability. Quick decision-making on issues with significant organizational impact is required. A very high degree of selective attention, discernment, perception and/or concentration is necessary.
  • Position requires a high degree of writing proficiency including attention to detail, adherence to all elements of style and ability to postulate. A working knowledge of and familiarity with medical terminology and definitions is required.
  • Position requires a high level of communication skill including expression of abstract/ complex ideas, use of negotiation and active listening and an ability to dialogue with multiple parties. Must be able to coach and assess skills of staff members.
  • Position requires a high degree of reading and auditory comprehension of abstractions and an ability to make inferences. A working knowledge and familiarity with medical terminology and definitions is required. A working knowledge and familiarity with professional/medical documentation as necessary.
  • Job requires ability to work with mathematical data, reading, computing, developing, analyzing, and monitoring of budgets, quality reports, and medication administration


WORK DEMANDS

  • Job requires working primarily indoors, only occasional need to be outdoors. Job requires working frequently around and with others. Schedule fluctuation is frequent and, at times, unpredictable. Job requires on call duty and emergency response. Job involves possible exposure and handling of the following: bloodborne and/or airborne pathogens, body fluids, infections and contagious diseases, latex, antineoplastic and other hazardous drugs


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Evaluates the clinical model and collaborates with the clinical team to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and reliability of the delivery of care
  • Participates in the setting of structure standards and delivery of care methodology as appropriate in collaboration with program/ medical director.
  • Leads effort to assure best practices in regard to care delivery and patient experience.
  • Is a resource, role model and mentor to unit staff regarding standards of patient centered care.
  • Assures establishment of coordinated and effective care delivery that achieves highest level of wellness for persons served maximizing the patient/family experience. Monitors outcomes for trends and responds appropriately.
  • Determines readiness of unit to accept admissions and care for patients assuring the competence and skill mix of staff.
  • Assures timely coordination and completion for readiness for discharge and transition to the next level of care.
  • Monitors patient workload and productivity indicators and utilizes the data to assure appropriate staff skill mix, levels of staff and patient assignments.
  • Collaborates with appropriate departments to appropriately review, plan for and manage risks to patients and staff.
  • Communicates timely and effectively with staff to assure continuity of operations from shift to shift and amongst care team members.
  • Communicates status of operations and relevant patients' issues to the Vice President Nursing/ CNO.
  • Is accountable for fiscal planning, which includes developing, implementing, and monitoring the budget for areas of responsibility, and analyses budget variances.
  • Develops a quality improvement plan for areas of responsibility and establishes appropriate indicators for monitoring. Evaluates and action plans appropriately.
  • Assures compliance to applicable standards of practice and adherence to regulatory and accrediting standards, monitors patient care plans, unit-based documentation and related processes.
  • Assures appropriate handling of patient/family concerns or complaints.
  • Is responsible for talent management that includes the hiring, orientation, initial and ongoing competence, practice standards, retention, growth and termination of employees.
  • Provides direction to unit-based leadership in handling clinical, performance or operational issues.
  • Develops, supports, and facilitates program development per Hospital strategic initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Nursing/CNO.
