Job description

Pay: $30.00 to $35.00, depending on experience.
Hours: Evenings, average 16-18 hours per week (hours include planning and teaching time)
Class Schedule: 3 evenings a week, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. with one additional evening per month.
DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Director of Full-Time Programs (Trade & Industrial)
SALARY RANGE:Hourly

TRAVEL: 5%
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Responsible for planning, delivering, and managing instruction for the Evening Air Conditioning & Refrigeration program while overseeing program operations, maintaining a safe classroom/lab environment, engaging with industry partners, and preparing students for certification and employment in the HVAC industry.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Adhere to Oklahoma Criteria for Effective Teaching and the Standards of Performance & Conduct for Teaching in the delivery of Air Conditioning & Refrigeration curriculum/instruction.
  2. Maintain accurate and current gradebooks, attendance records, and submit weekly progress reports to Student Services.
  3. Instruct students in the proper use, care, and safe operation of equipment, tools, materials, supplies, and facilities.
  4. Remain current with and incorporate instructional, technological, and regulatory changes within the HVAC industry.
  5. Encourage and prepare students to obtain industry-recognized certifications.
  6. Manage the daily operation of the Evening Air Conditioning & Refrigeration program, including classroom and laboratory activities.
  7. Maintain a safe, organized, and effective classroom/lab learning environment.
  8. Prepare and submit an annual list of budgetary needs for the program to the direct supervisor.
  9. Monitor the expenditure of program funds in accordance with the approved budget and school policies.
  10. Maintain accurate inventory records and monitor equipment, tools, and supplies to prevent loss, damage, or theft.
  11. Prepare and submit reports and documentation as required by Autry Tech, the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education, and other accrediting agencies.
  12. Prepare for and actively participate in program accreditation and evaluation processes.
  13. Develop and implement short- and long-term program goals aligned with HVAC industry standards and workforce needs.
  14. Effectively utilize an Advisory Committee and conduct at least one advisory meeting annually.
  15. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with workforce & economic development staff, businesses, and industry partners.
  16. Actively promote and participate in recruitment of students for the Evening Air Conditioning & Refrigeration program.
  17. Promote and coordinate student placement in job shadowing, supervised work experiences, employment opportunities, and continuing education.
  18. Coordinate with the Marketing Department to inform the public of program activities and successes.
  19. Sponsor or co-sponsor Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) activities and encourage student participation in CTSO and other student organizations.
  20. Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Associate degree in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration or closely related field is preferred. Equivalent relevant work experience in the HVAC industry may be considered in lieu of education.
CERTIFICATION: Must hold and maintain a valid Oklahoma Journeyman license and have the ability to be certified by the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board to teach the program.
SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of residential and commercial HVAC installation, service, and troubleshooting practices
  • Ability to diagnose and repair HVAC electrical and mechanical systems
  • Knowledge of refrigerant charging, system diagnostics, and HVAC safety standards
  • Ability to plan and deliver technical instruction in a classroom/lab environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work with students, staff, and industry partners
  • Ability to manage lab equipment, tools, and program resources

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three years in the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC) field. Experience in residential and/or commercial HVAC installation, service, and troubleshooting required. Experience with HVAC electrical systems, refrigerant charging and system diagnostics, duct design, gas piping, and system balancing preferred.

  • Physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, finger dexterity, feeling, hearing, near and far acuity, depth perception, field of vision (naturally or with correction), isolation, and eye-hand coordination. Occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds may be required.
