How much do on call cvd process engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 15, 2026, the average yearly pay for on call cvd process engineer in the United States is $92,018.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $74,500.00 and $103,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an On Call CVD Process Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an On Call CVD Process Engineer, you need a strong background in materials science, chemical engineering, and semiconductor processing, often requiring a relevant engineering degree. Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting chemical vapor deposition (CVD) equipment, as well as familiarity with process control software and safety protocols, is essential. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are key soft skills for this role. These skills ensure efficient process optimization, rapid resolution of equipment issues, and safe, high-quality production in a demanding manufacturing environment.

What is the difference between On Call Cvd Process Engineer vs Cvd Process Engineer?

AspectOn Call Cvd Process EngineerCvd Process Engineer
CredentialsTypically requires a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or related field, with some roles preferring certifications in process safety or industry-specific trainingSame as On Call, often with additional certifications for specialized processes
Work EnvironmentPrimarily in manufacturing or cleanroom settings, with on-call responsibilities for process issuesIn manufacturing plants, laboratories, or R&D facilities, usually during regular shifts
Employer & Industry UsageUsed in semiconductor, electronics, or thin-film industries where CVD processes are criticalCommon in similar industries, often with broader process engineering duties

The main difference is that the On Call Cvd Process Engineer has responsibilities that include being available outside regular hours for urgent process issues, whereas the Cvd Process Engineer typically works during standard shifts without on-call duties. Both roles require similar technical skills and industry knowledge, but the on-call position emphasizes responsiveness to process disruptions.

What is an On Call CVD Process Engineer?

An On Call CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) Process Engineer is a technical professional responsible for overseeing and troubleshooting the CVD process used in manufacturing, often in semiconductor or materials science industries. They are available on an as-needed basis to respond to issues, optimize processes, and ensure that production lines run smoothly and efficiently. Their role typically includes monitoring equipment, analyzing data, and collaborating with other engineers to maintain high-quality standards. This position requires strong problem-solving skills, flexibility to work outside regular hours, and expertise in CVD technologies.

What are some common challenges faced by On Call CVD Process Engineers, and how can they be managed in a dynamic manufacturing environment?

On Call CVD Process Engineers often encounter challenges such as troubleshooting unexpected equipment faults, maintaining consistent film quality under tight production schedules, and responding to urgent process deviations outside of regular hours. Managing these challenges typically requires strong problem-solving skills, a solid understanding of CVD equipment and process parameters, and effective communication with cross-functional teams like maintenance and production. Proactively documenting process adjustments and maintaining clear hand-off notes can also help ensure smooth operations and minimize downtime.

Job description

MIT Lincoln Laboratory's Microelectronics Laboratory is a 200mm wafer facility with commercial-class equipment serving national security and economic interests.ย  The facility processes full-flows for a range of integrated circuit technologies including 90 nm fully depleted silicon-on-insulator CMOS, science grade CCD imagers, superconducting digital and quantum circuits, photonics, MEMs, and microfluidics.ย

Job Description

The Microelectronics Laboratory is seeking a process engineer eager to apply their science or engineering skills in support of state-of-the-art superconducting circuits, quantum computing, radiation hardened electronics, charge-coupled imagers, and more.ย ย ย

As part of a Process Engineering team, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing, monitoring, maintaining, and improving base processes and capabilities for assigned tools. ย Focus tool areas include physical vapor deposition, epitaxy, and atomic layer deposition. ย Role could include wet chemical processing, plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition, wafer bonding, photolithography, reactive ion etch, and ion implantation depending on experience value.ย  For the successful candidate's assigned tools, the person will

  • be key unit process focal point coordinating and communicating with all affected areas, including operations, maintenance, and process integration teams,
  • maintain and improve process capability, lot quality, and operations efficiency,
  • define and implement statistical process control; respond to process shifts, excursions, misprocess events, and tool downs,
  • coordinate with process integration owners and develop new unit process steps as needed,
  • create and maintain required process procedures and documentation,
  • work with maintenance to maintain and improve equipment performance and capability.
Requirements
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics or related field.
  • Enthusiasm for solving problems and a willingness to work in a cleanroom.
  • Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following process areas is preferred: physical vapor deposition, epitaxy, atomic layer deposition, chemical vapor deposition (CVD), chemical mechanical polish (CMP), ion implantation, reactive ion etch, wet processing, thermal oxidation, lithography, silicon wafer thinning, or wafer bonding.
  • 2+ years of experience in nanofabrication or microfabrication, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of microfabrication techniques, statistical process control, and design of experiments
