BEHAVIORAL SPECIALIST / MENTAL HEALTH THERAPIST


CHARACTERISTICS OF WORK

The Behavior Specialist \Mental Health Therapist provides direct services to consumers in a school-based program and assigned program. Participates in center programs as needed. 


EXAMPLES OF RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Maintains documentation as evidence that all duties are completed in accordance with program requirements contained in the Department of Mental Health Operational Standards;
  • Maintains proper training, continuing education, qualifications, and other certifications required for this position as written in the Department of Mental Health Operational Standards;
  • Provides a minimum of 5 hours/day of direct face-to-face services to consumers;
  • Provides 24-hour telephone “on-call” crisis intervention referral (as scheduled).
  • Complete intake evaluation interviews with responsibility for seeing that proper routing of consumers and records is performed;
  • Provide therapy services to consumers in accordance with treatment plans;
  • Responsibility for development and implementation of treatment plans;
  • Participate in clinical staff meeting, general staff meetings and in service training;
  • Assist in providing and implementing consultation and education services as directed by the Center Coordinator and/or Clinical Director;
  • Participate in psycho-social/day treatment program as directed by Center Coordinator and/or Clinical director;
  • Maintain a "Consumer-Oriented" focus  in the provision services to Region 8 Consumers;
  • Accept and participate in case supervision by the Center Coordinator and Program Coordinator; 
  • Participate in continuing education by attending Workshops, seminars and other professional meetings;
  • Build and promote community relationships with referral sites; and
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor.


QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Master's Degree in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
  • Must possess a professional license (LPC, P-LPC, LMFT, LCSW, or LMSW) or be eligible to earn a DMH credential as a Mental Health Therapist, Intellectual and Developmental, Disabilities Therapist, or Addictions Therapist (as appropriate to the service and population being served).
  • Must maintain a valid MS driver’s license.
  • Must pass a criminal background check
