What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an On Call Certified Foot Care Nurse, and why are they important?

To thrive as an On Call Certified Foot Care Nurse, you need specialized training in foot care, a current nursing license, and certification in foot care nursing. Familiarity with wound care products, infection control protocols, and electronic health record (EHR) systems is typically required. Outstanding interpersonal skills, flexibility, and attention to detail are essential for providing compassionate care in varied settings and on an unpredictable schedule. These competencies ensure effective, safe, and responsive foot care for patients with complex needs, often preventing serious complications.

Managing these challenges requires strong organizational skills, efficient time management, and the ability to communicate effectively with both patients and healthcare teams. Staying up to date with best practices in foot care and maintaining a well-prepared mobile kit can help nurses provide high-quality care in various settings, whether in clinics, patients’ homes, or long-term care facilities.

What are On Call Certified Foot Care Nurses?

On Call Certified Foot Care Nurses are licensed nurses who specialize in providing foot care services to patients, often those with chronic conditions like diabetes or limited mobility. They are 'on call,' meaning they respond to patient needs as they arise, rather than working fixed shifts. Their responsibilities include assessing foot health, cleaning and trimming toenails, treating minor foot problems, and educating patients on proper foot care.
