Job description

Welcome to SSC Space (formerly Swedish Space Corporation), the perfect workplace for those passionate about technology in general and space in particular.

With space organizations, research institutes, institutional and commercial actors as customers, we offer specialist expertise in satellite communications, space consulting services, rocket and balloon systems, flight test services, satellite propulsion systems, and much more.

SSC Space also has one of the world’s largest global networks of ground stations for satellite communications. We own and operate the Esrange Space Center in Kiruna, northern Sweden, with the aim of launching satellites in the near future.

Are you ready to embark on an exciting journey with us to help Earth benefit from space?

If you answer yes to this question, we invite you to seize the opportunity to make a significant impact as Software Engineer in our team. We are looking for a dedicated person who shares our core values of Customer passion, Care, Collaboration, Curiosity, and Courage.

The Software unit within SSC Connect is entrusted to develop and maintain critical systems required to connect our customers with their satellites. As our Software Engineer, you’ll develop and maintain the critical systems that keep our customers connected with their satellites every day.

Requirements

We think that you care - about your systems, your colleagues, and your users. That you have a creative and analytical mindset. You take responsibility, drive your own initiatives, and can learn and process technical details quickly. We also think that you appreciate both working autonomously and together with other people.

We believe you have a BSc or similar degree in Computer Science or Engineering and several years of experience in software development.

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • Proven experience with git
  • Proven experience with unit testing and system test scripting
  • Experience developing and deploying applications on cloud platforms
  • Solid knowledge of Linux environments
  • Excellent communication skills in English.

We also value if you have experience with:

  • Experience building scalable and reliable infrastructure on cloud platforms
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes
  • Experience with message bus technologies (RabbitMq, NATS, Kafka)
  • Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD methodologies
  • Experience with databases (SQL/NoSQL)
  • Interest or experience within the space industry.

You must hold EU citizenship and be able to travel occasionally.

This role is also critical for our operational services and may include participation in an on-call rotation (up to one week per month).

Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced software engineer to:

  • Build and maintain high-quality software for mission-critical applications.
  • Advance automation in testing, deployment, and delivery.
  • Enhance observability through monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement within our agile teams.
  • Support live missions and ensure system reliability in production.
Benefits

We offer you

  • A unique opportunity to contribute to a wide range of projects and play an active role in both the Swedish and international space industry.
  • An excellent opportunity for personal and career development.
  • An exciting, international workplace characterized by an open atmosphere and proud employees all over the world.
Additional benefits
  • In addition to vacation and traditional public holidays, we offer extra paid leave throughout the year, such as time off between Christmas and New Year, Ascension Day, amounting to 6-11 extra days depending on the calendar.
  • Wellness allowance of SEK 5,000 per year.
  • Health benefits such as voluntary health insurance and regular health checks for eligible employees.
  • Access to a benefit bike through a tax-efficient leasing program.
  • Support for employee-driven activities that promote connection, health, and culture across teams.
  • Collective Agreement, including good pension plans, parental pay and insurance.
