This Opportunity

WSP's Cultural Resources Management Team are located across the United States, with over 30 cultural resources professionals housed in our offices in Louisville, Kentucky; Lexington, Kentucky; Kansas City, Missouri; Ballwin, Missouri; and Jefferson City, Missouri

WSP has immediate openings for On-Call Field Archaeologists with a long-term Phase III archaeological data recovery project at five multi-component Pre-Contact archaeological sites. The sites are located in close proximity to each other. and contain components dating from the Late Archaic through the Late Pre-Contact periods. It is probable that the sites contain the remains of the early use of plants of the Eastern Agricultural Complex, and experience on Pre-Contact sites, and with the identification and excavation of Pre-Contact features, is particularly desirable.

This is an on-call, hourly position. Hourly rates are industry competitive, (depending on North American CRM experience and regional archaeological experience).

Candidates local to Arkansas, Missouri, eastern Oklahoma, and eastern Kansas are ideal due to work location and schedule, but all qualified applicants will be considered. WSP also has ongoing Phase I, II, and III work in other states with additional upcoming work.

Your Impact

  • Assist with multiple Phase III data recovery projects (with additional work at Phase I and II levels), with specific tasks including:
    • archaeological test unit and shovel test excavation;
    • excavation of cultural features;
    • recovery and identification of archaeological artifacts and other materials;
    • use archaeological field forms to record archaeological data, including type and number of artifacts, soil color (Munsell) and soil textures, and other relevant information;
  • Work effectively as part of a team;
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures;
  • Strictly abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in anthropology / archaeology or a closely related field;
  • Archaeological field school or similar archaeological field experience;
  • Self-motivated, physically able to conduct all aspects of fieldwork in all weather conditions, and be able to follow instructions.

Additional / Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with Pre-Contact archaeological sites in Arkansas, eastern Oklahoma, and the surrounding region;
  • Pre-Contact lithic artifact identification and analysis.
