Job description

5 Axis CNC Programmer/Machinist

We’re looking for a hands-on 5-Axis CNC Programmer/Machinist to help drive precision and efficiency in our Machine Shop. In this role, you’ll program at the machine, set up, operate, and optimize a variety of advanced equipment—including CNC lathes, machining centers, Swiss lathes, waterjet, and 5-axis (3+2) machines. This is a great opportunity for a seasoned machinist who enjoys solving problems, improving processes, and mentoring operators.

What you'll be doing:

  • Program, set up, and operate 3-axis and 5-axis (3+2) CNC machining centers, CNC lathes, Swiss lathes, and abrasive waterjet equipment
  • Create, modify, and optimize machining programs using G-code, conversational programming, CAD/CAM, Siemens, Heidenhain, and OMAX
  • Perform first-article runs, verify dimensions, and adjust programs as needed
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and CAD models to develop machining strategies
  • Select tooling, fixtures, and cutting parameters for efficient, repeatable production
  • Simulate programs to verify accuracy and prevent collisions
  • Troubleshoot machining issues including tool wear, machine alarms, and dimensional concerns
  • Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, and vision systems
  • Maintain production records and complete required quality documentation
  • Train operators on safe and proper machining procedures
  • Recommend process improvements to reduce cycle times and improve quality
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions when issues occur

What you'll bring to the table:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 7+ years of machine shop experience
  • Certified CNC programming training and/or equivalent hands-on experience
  • 3+ years programming and machining on 3-axis and 5-axis (3+2) machining centers
  • Experience with CNC lathes, Swiss lathes, and high-pressure abrasive waterjet machines
  • Strong understanding of G-code, conversational programming, and CAD/CAM software
  • Ability to read blueprints and apply GD&T
  • Experience with precision measuring equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting and process improvement skills
