Job description

Job Title: CNC Mill OperatorJob Description

This role involves operating CNC mills, primarily 3-axis machines, to produce precision components from aluminum materials. You will read and interpret blueprints, perform basic machine adjustments and tool changes, and ensure all finished parts meet quality standards through inspection and use of a CMM machine. The position sits within a long-run production environment where you will receive training in setups, tool changes, and offsets.

Responsibilities
  • Operate CNC milling machines, primarily 3-axis mills, to machine aluminum components according to specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints on a daily basis to determine machining requirements, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Perform basic tool changes and adjust machine offsets to maintain part quality and dimensional accuracy.
  • Deburr machined parts to remove sharp edges and ensure a clean, finished product.
  • Conduct quality checks on finished parts using inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Operate a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) to verify part dimensions and ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Work within a long-run production environment, maintaining consistent quality and output over extended production runs.
  • Follow established procedures for machine setups and learn to perform more advanced setups under guidance.
  • Monitor machines during operation, identifying and addressing issues such as tool wear, dimensional drift, or surface finish problems.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, following safety and housekeeping standards in the machine shop.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Adhere to all safety policies, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe operation of machinery.
Essential Skills
  • At least 2 years of CNC operation experience, preferably on milling machines.
  • Proficiency in operating CNC mills, including basic tool changes and offset adjustments.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately for daily machining tasks.
  • Experience using inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Ability to perform basic deburring and finishing operations on machined parts.
  • Familiarity with quality inspection processes in a machine shop environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to stand for the duration of the shift and work safely around industrial equipment.
  • Comfort working with aluminum and other metals in a production setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Machining degree or formal machining education.
  • Experience operating a coordinate measuring machine (CMM).
  • Background in long-run production environments.
  • Exposure to both milling and lathe operations in a machine shop.
  • Understanding of machine setups, including workholding and tooling.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented manufacturing environment.
Why Work Here?

You will work in a clean, well-maintained shop that offers stability and room for professional growth. The department maintains a low turnover rate, and new opportunities arise primarily due to retirements, reflecting a supportive and long-tenured workforce. You can develop your skills through training in setups and advanced machine operations while contributing to a reliable and established manufacturing operation.

Work Environment

The role is based in a very clean manufacturing environment with air conditioning, focused on producing compact hydraulic power units that are fully self-contained with motors, gear pumps, reservoirs, internal valving, load hold checks, and relief valves for industrial and mobile hydraulic applications. You will frequently work around oils, cleaners, coolants, and moving equipment, with exposure to loud noises in designated areas where hearing protection is required. Eye protection is required in all plant work areas, and safety shoes with steel toes and slip-resistant soles are mandatory. The position requires standing for the entire shift and working in a machine shop environment that emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and adherence to established procedures.
