Job Summary:

The Mill Cutoff Operator  assists the mill operator with mill changeovers, monitors tube quality, performs equipment adjustments and maintenance, and supports inspection, documentation, and training activities to ensure consistent product quality. This role requires adherence to safety and quality systems while performing physically demanding tasks in a manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Assist mill operator in changeover of mill.
  • Constantly monitors quality of tube for surface condition, measures for I.D. flash, O.D. size, gauge, length, end condition and checks for tube straightness
  • Makes adjustments to or replaces cutoff tooling as needed
  • Lubricates cutoff, greases bearings, oils gear boxes as time permits
  • Assist in eddy current setup and maintains painting unit
  • Helps mill loader when possible
  • Keeps heat numbers separate
  • Documents weld mill final inspection sheet as needed
  • Aids in training of new employees
  • Cleans all areas of the plant when not directed to do anything else
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as directed.
  • The incumbent is expected to understand that all employees have a shared responsibility for the quality of products and related services provided to our customers. Duties and responsibilities are to be carried out in accordance with the PTC Quality Management System and its policies, procedures, and work instructions as applicable to the job or function being performed.

Skills and Abilities: 

Ability to reason through problems involving adjustments to equipment.  Must have an average background in math.  Also is expected to be able to lift , push or pull a maximum 100 pounds.  Required to walk, stand, or climb for the entire shift.  Must be able to bend, squat and have full range of all limbs without restrictions.
