A. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Under Class 1 and/or 2 supervision for one year and Class 3 supervision thereafter, following specific instructions as to methods and working details, must be willing and able to perform simple and routine tasks involved in the repairing, adjusting, programing, and testing of electric meters in shop and field, and be qualified to do the following and related work as assigned: 1. Use and maintain a laptop computer and/or tablets for use in programming and maintenance of meters, completing daily work orders, time reporting, load validation forms, and other electronic forms as required. 2. Connect and use test board and understand use of testing instruments. 3. Read, connect, and disconnect meters. 4. Program and test new meters. 5. Clean, repair and test old meters. 6. Read and reset demand meters. 7. After first year, perform periodic tests, make repairs, and adjustments on residential and small commercial meters. 8. Inspect meter and meter loop for irregularities. 9. Check customer's wiring for accidental grounds. 10. Check installation for proper secondary ground. 11. Check secondary voltage at customer's entrance, and make load checks. 12. Calculate secondary meter constants. 13. After first year, perform complaint tests on residential and small commercial meters including those with demand attachments. 14. Assist in assembling, building and installing primary metering equipment. 15. After the first year must learn to use fall protection equipment required for ladder and bucket work and within six months have ability to handle self working from a ladder and bucket work in a safe, efficient manner. 16. Perform general and miscellaneous labor in and out of the meter shop. 17. Perform necessary housekeeping. 18. Prepare detailed records, reports and file as needed. 19. Handle and work from ladders in a safe and efficient manner. 20. Operate Company's vehicles and equipment. 21. After six months, perform de-energized transformer rated meter installations. 22. Load, unload and handle meters, wire, tools, materials, supplies, etc. and assist in handling material to and from stock room and field vehicle. 23. Assist qualified meterman in simple routine installs, inspection, test and maintenance. 24. Read and understand work request, job drawings and maps and assist with Job Hazard Assessment. 25. Take notes in shop and field. 26. Use various hand tools.
B. EXPERIENCE AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Vo-Tech/Associates electrical/instrumentation degree or equivalent experience in related work required. 2. Within six months after employment, know Company's safety rules, and be willing and able to administer all approved methods of resuscitation, and be willing and able to render practical first aid. 3. Within thirty days after employment, know the location of and be willing and able to operate all of the firefighting equipment; know what kind of equipment to use on electrical, oil and other fires. 4. Be willing and able to qualify for automobile and truck operator's license 5. Know city streets, and roads in rural sections. 6. Be responsible for Company tools, instruments and equipment. 7. Be familiar with meter and repair parts stock. 8. After six months employment, have a working knowledge of Company's practice and standards as related to your work. 9. After one year's employment, have an elementary working knowledge of electrical fundamentals meter terminology, electrical circuitry and theory. 10. After one year of employment, must be familiar with Company's rules and regulations applying to service and meter installations, Underwriters' National Electrical Code; and any state or local regulations governing electrical wiring as pertains to service and meter installations. 11. After one year of employment must be willing and able to read and understand simple wiring diagrams and blueprints. 12. After one year of employment, know and identify meters and meter material used and its purpose in electrical metering. 13. Must be willing and able to qualify/obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card and work in petrochemical facilities and any other applicable required licenses, background checks or ID's. 14. Have knowledge of meters, metering material and how it is used. 15. Satisfactorily complete all necessary and mandatory classroom training requirements associated with the position, OSHA mandated, bucket rescue, etc. 16. Have a thorough knowledge of Company regulations, county and state laws governing installation and diversion of electricity.
C. PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Must be willing and able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation included, but not limited to: a) Have strength and endurance adequate to manually lift, carry, and transport test and meter equipment as circumstances may require. b) Must be willing and able to recognize spectrum of colors. c) Be able to work from heights and closed spaces. d) Have good eye hand coordination and physical dexterity.
D. PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Be particularly alert in observing hazards and avoiding accidents. 2. Be willing and able to attend and take part in safety meetings. 3. Be willing and able to work under unusual surroundings, as well as the normal working conditions pertaining to this job. 4. Must possess keen faculties of observation. 5. Have a temperament suited to jobs where manual dexterity, precision, and patience are particularly essential. 6. Be especially neat, clean and orderly in work and person. 7. Be willing and able to meet the public in a pleasant and tactful manner. 8. Be willing and able to receive, transmit and execute orders and instructions in such a manner as to inspire respect and confidence of superiors and subordinates. 9. Understand importance of always rendering and maintaining first class, courteous service to all customers. 10. Assist in storm restoration efforts. 11. Be willing and able to work afterhours and out of town assignments as required. 12. Have good leadership characteristics.
