Function/Duties of Position
The APP/Inpatient Nocturnist delivers care aligned with a defined scope of practice Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, with work expectations operationalized through departmental workflows, productivity standards, and performance expectations consistent with the CBA and institutional policies.
This role is structured to meet contract-defined work expectations of 143 14.5-hour shifts per year-inclusive of overnight coverage on weekdays and weekends, PTO, Holidays-aligned with the clinical coverage model and patient care needs of the service.
The APP/Inpatient Nocturnist will participate in departmental scheduling processes, including weekends and holidays, with scheduling practices aligned to contract provisions, equitable distribution of coverage, and maintenance of safe, consistent clinical operations.
Clinical Activities:
  • Direct
    • Pediatric Hematology-Oncology patients
    • Inpatient unit
    • Independent and shared billing
    • Nights, weekends, holidays
    • Department specific activities: Assure the safe, efficient, high quality and customer oriented management of patient care to the pediatric hematology/oncology population, including but not limited to completing a comprehensive assessment of the patient's status; developing, monitoring and revising, as appropriate, an evidence-based treatment plan that addresses diagnoses, patterns of disease, risk factors, and treatment alternatives; treat many common acute and chronic health problems; interpret diagnostic tests; prescribe and manage medications and other therapies; provide health teaching with an emphasis on anticipatory guidance and risks of complications of therapy

  • All APPs are expected to support the clinical, education, and research mission of OHSU through routine clinical care that includes working with students, trainees, and patients participating in research, consistent with their role, scope of practice, and applicable contract and institutional policies

Required Qualifications
Education:
  • Successful completion of a Master Degree in Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing in the specialty of Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP), or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG ACNP) from an accredited program, a recognized APRN specialty (Certified Nurse Midwife, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, or Nurse Practitioner)

- OR -
  • Successful completion of a Master Degree in Physician Assistant/Associate Studies from an accredited program.

Registrations, Certifications and/or Licenses:
  • Current RN and APRN NP licensure with the Oregon Board of Nursing.
  • Current national ANCC Certification in the area of specialization.
  • Current BLS, ACLS or PALS Certification as indicated for the position.
  • DEA Certification.

  • Current PA licensure with the Oregon Medical Board.
  • Current NCCPA Certification.
  • Current BLS, ACLS or PALS Certification.
  • DEA Certification.

Experience:
  • Prior experience in Pediatrics.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to manage heavy workload with multiple priorities and inflexible deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient in the use of computing hardware and software, including personal computing equipment, electronic medical record, word processing.
  • Regular and consistent attendance at work.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology.
