Job description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The team will augment services provided by Air Force military personnel to modify, maintain, inspect, control corrosion, overhaul, repair, regenerate and store various weapon systems, related components, missiles, engines, ground support equipment and vehicles.
DUTIES:
  • Perform chemical stripping of paints and primers to facilitate access for maintenance personnel to conduct depot-level modifications and repairs on a variety of aircraft, including F-16 aircraft, other routed items, and associated components.
  • Perform comprehensive media blasting (utilizing various media), stripping, and cleaning of aircraft and aircraft components; prepare aircraft surfaces for painting; formulate coating materials; apply coatings to aircraft and aircraft components; and conduct corrosion and other relevant inspections.
  • Operate common tools such as paint guns, sanders, plastic scrapers, high-speed grinders, hydro-blasters, various media blast equipment, and other common hand and pneumatic tools.
  • Meticulously inspect aircraft for dings, dents, corrosion, and loose or missing rivets; meticulously tape windows, landing gear, plastic, and fiberglass to protect them from chemicals; perform acid etching and washing procedures; apply primer and epoxy coatings; apply paint, designs, and decals; and conduct thorough final inspections.
  • Coats surfaces of aircraft with paint, lacquer, epoxy, resin, Radar Absorbent Material, Low Observable Coatings or other coating materials, using brushes, rollers, spray guns, and other application devices; removes existing paint from aircraft utilizing liquid paint remover, scrapers, mechanical sanding, and media blasting.
  • Smooths surfaces with sandpaper and steel wool; roughens aluminum surfaces with acid solutions and steel wool to ensure optimal paint adhesion; masks and covers portions of surfaces not designated for painting; and paints insignia, letters, or numerals onto aircraft surfaces using stencils.
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have at least 6-8 years of applicable experience
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance

D. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
E. May be required to see aircraft in flight, read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools.
F. Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings and other small scales.
G. Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
H. Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
I. May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, fork lift, APU, etc.
