Offshore Helper information

What is an offshore helper?

An Offshore Helper is an entry-level worker who assists with various tasks on an offshore oil rig, vessel, or platform. Their duties may include cleaning, handling tools, moving equipment, and supporting skilled workers like welders and mechanics. They must follow strict safety protocols and work in challenging conditions, often for extended shifts. This role provides valuable experience for career advancement in the offshore industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an offshore helper?

To thrive as an Offshore Helper, you need a solid understanding of basic mechanical or construction tasks, physical fitness, and a valid offshore survival certification (such as BOSIET or HUET). Familiarity with hand tools, safety equipment, and adherence to health and safety regulations is typically required. A strong work ethic, teamwork, adaptability, and clear communication skills help individuals excel in this role. These competencies are crucial due to the demanding physical environment, safety-sensitive operations, and close-knit collaborative teams found on offshore platforms.

What is a typical work schedule like for an offshore helper on an offshore platform?

Offshore Helpers usually work a rotational schedule, such as two weeks on followed by two weeks off, depending on the employer and location of the platform. During their rotation, they often work 12-hour shifts and may be required to work both days and nights. The work environment is team-oriented, and helpers live on-site in shared accommodations with other crew members for the duration of their rotation. This schedule offers extended time off between rotations but also means working continuously in a remote and controlled environment while on duty.

How do I get a job working offshore as an offshore helper?

To work offshore as an offshore helper, you typically need a high school diploma or equivalent, basic physical fitness, and the ability to work in a demanding environment. Relevant skills include safety awareness, teamwork, and sometimes certifications like OSHA or basic safety training; prior experience in manual labor or construction can be beneficial. Employers often require a valid work visa or legal authorization to work offshore, and jobs are usually obtained through direct applications, recruitment agencies, or industry-specific job boards.

Summary:

Osaic's advisor-facing applications are the core of what financial advisors use every day to manage client relationships, process transactions, and run their business. We are looking for a hands-on technical leader responsible for the design, development, and delivery of these applications. This person is someone who is most useful when in the code — doing in-depth code reviews, making architectural calls, solutioning along with the product team, helping engineers think through problems they're stuck on, and helping debug production issues. The ideal candidate combines deep application development expertise in C#/.NET, Angular, SQL Server, and Azure with Scaled Agile delivery leadership to drive engineering quality, mentor engineers, and ensure production excellence across distributed teams.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree preferred, high school diploma (or equivalent) in combination with significant practical experience will be considered in lieu of degree. A minimum high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a player-coach to lead the team. Review pull requests, contribute to architectural decisions, help diagnose production issues. Mentor and guide engineers on technical strategy and implementation. The team should see this person as a technical expert, not just a manager.
  • Work closely with Product, other technology teams, Compliance, and Operations to provide best in class software design and delivery. Have a point of view and able explain clearly and present options when something doesn't make technical sense.
  • Lead Scaled Agile delivery across a distributed team including offshore resources.  Active participant and key point of contact in Agile ceremonies — PI planning, sprint execution, daily standups. Keeps things moving without micromanaging and encourages cross-team coordination.
  • Support production stability of the application. When something breaks, be part of figuring out why and making sure it doesn't happen again. Demonstrate proactive problem resolution abilities and the ability to be a problem solver.
  • Manage vendors and offshore partners against quality standards and delivery commitments. Coordinate resources and activities to achieve maximum productivity.
  • Create Software Architecture documentation and adhere to Enterprise Standards.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of application development experience, including at least 2 years leading projects and teams.
  • Comfortable with C#/.NET Core, ASP.NET Core, REST API design, dependency injection, and service-oriented architecture; has recent hands-on experience
  • Strong SQL Server skills — stored procedures, query performance, schema design.  Multi-year experience managing development using one or more of the following: SQL Server, Stored Procedures, C#.NET, .NET Core, MVC and Entity Framework
  • Angular 18+ fluency sufficient to meaningfully review component design, reactive forms, and TypeScript
  • Full-stack credibility — able to move between backend and frontend without losing the thread. This codebase requires both
  • Azure development — working knowledge of App Service, SQL Database, and Service Bus; cloud-native patterns, ADO, CI/CD pipelines
  • Scaled Agile experience at the enterprise level and minimum 3 years’ experience with Agile Software development at the enterprise level
  • Project and people leadership experience. Effective Communicator, both written and verbal. Able to interact with multiple stakeholders and levels of the organization.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Financial services background — broker-dealer, advisor platforms, or regulated financial systems such as banking, credit card or insurance domains.
  • Microservices, Docker/Kubernetes, event-driven architecture, message queues (RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus)
  • SonarQube or static code analysis experience
