Job Overview:
APTIM Environmental & Infrastructure LLC, a leading engineering and environmental firm with a thriving coastal engineering and resilience practice, is pleased to announce an immediate opening in our Tampa, FL office for a Senior Marine Geoscientist/Project Manager. With a suite of dedicated geophysical instruments, APTIM performs full-scale geophysical surveys in support of coastal restoration, offshore energy development, and a variety of offshore infrastructure projects. APTIM geoscientists specialize in offshore geophysical/geotechnical data collection, processing, and reporting for investigations related to seabed and shallow to medium marine geology that form the foundation for mineral resource identification, regulatory permitting, infrastructure siting, geohazard analysis, pipeline/cable routing, and inspection surveys. The successful candidate will serve as a senior technical leader and project manager, responsible for overseeing multiple marine geophysical projects, managing and leading field teams, and leading data collection, processing, interpretation and reporting efforts. This role is primarily office-based, with some offshore survey participation expected, and requires a professional capable of stepping into ongoing projects with minimal onboarding.
Responsibilities:
APTIM seeks to hire a full-time Senior Marine Geoscientist/Project Manager in our Tampa, FL office. The position will involve oversight and leadership of geophysical/geotechnical coastal and marine data collection efforts, as well as leading data processing, interpretation, and integration of marine geophysical/geotechnical datasets. The successful candidate will lead multidisciplinary teams to produce engineering, geological, and geohazard deliverables, including maps, reports, and presentations supporting regulatory approvals, infrastructure siting, and design.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
  • Serve as Project Manager for marine geophysical and geotechnical survey projects of varying size and complexity.
  • Lead project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution with minimal oversight.
  • Act as primary point of contact for clients, ensuring clear communication and successful delivery.
  • Manage project financials, including cost tracking, forecasting, and resource allocation.
  • Coordinate with internal staff, field teams, subcontractors, and vessel providers.
  • Provide leadership, direction and support to offshore field teams and Party Chiefs during survey operations.
  • Review daily field reports, production logs, and data quality metrics.
  • Ensure field operations align with project objectives, technical and quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Participate in offshore operations for data collection shifts, and/or for project kickoff, troubleshooting, and/or critical milestones.
  • Lead collection, processing, integration, and interpretation of geophysical datasets (sidescan sonar, sub-bottom profiler, boomer, magnetometer, etc.).
  • Oversee integration of geotechnical data (vibracores, grab samples) with geophysical interpretations.
  • Establish and enforce QA/QC procedures for data acquisition, processing, and deliverables
  • Perform senior-level technical review of data, maps, and reports to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Lead preparation and review of technical reports, charts, GIS products, and geohazard assessments.
  • Ensure deliverables meet client specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
  • Communicate complex technical findings clearly through written reports and presentations.
  • Support proposal development, including scope definition, technical approach, and cost estimating.
  • Contribute to business development and client engagement efforts.
  • Provide technical input for project planning and survey design.

Qualifications/Competencies/Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science degree (or higher) in geology, geophysics, geological oceanography, or related field of study.
  • 7+ years of relevant marine geophysical experience
  • Must have strong technical/scientific writing skills.
  • Experience with quality and efficient operation of geophysical survey systems (including chirp sub-bottom, boomer, sidescan sonar, magnetometer) is required.
  • Experience with geotechnical systems (including vibracores and grab samplers, etc.) is required.
  • Marine geophysical data interpretation experience using SonarWiz, Hypack, and Discover Acquisition or related software.
  • Experience with ArcGis, AutoCAD, and Surfer software is preferred.
  • Experience mobilizing vessels for geophysical and geotechnical surveys.
  • In addition to Level 1 and 2 competencies, has in-depth experience, knowledge and skills in own discipline.
  • Works independently with minimal guidance. Usually determines own work priorities. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
  • Has expertise in own discipline. Applies knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and nonstandard situations.
  • Interprets customer needs, assesses requirements and identifies solutions to nonstandard requests.
  • Uses best practices and knowledge of internal/external business issues to improve products or services in own discipline.
  • Monitors and controls costs within own work.
  • Solves moderately complex problems; takes a new perspective on existing solutions.
  • Manages own time to meet agreed targets; develops plans for short-term work activities in own area.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay range for this position is $105K-125K per year. Compensation depends on several factors including experience, education, key skills, geographic location of the position, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity among other employees within APTIM.
