Can you work internationally as a CPA?

Offshore CPAs can work internationally if they hold the necessary certifications recognized in the country where they plan to work and comply with local licensing requirements. Many CPAs work remotely for international clients or firms, utilizing skills in accounting, auditing, and tax compliance across borders. However, licensing and legal regulations vary by country, so understanding local standards is essential for international practice.

What is the difference between Offshore CPA vs Onshore CPA?

AspectOffshore CPAOnshore CPA
CredentialsCPA certification, similar to onshoreCPA certification, similar to offshore
Work EnvironmentRemote, often in different time zonesOn-site or local office
Employer & IndustryGlobal firms, outsourcing companiesLocal accounting firms, corporations
Work FocusTax, audit, bookkeeping for international clientsTax, audit, consulting for local clients

Offshore CPAs and Onshore CPAs both hold CPA credentials and perform similar accounting tasks. The main difference lies in their work environment and client base: offshore CPAs typically work remotely for international clients from different time zones, while onshore CPAs work locally in offices. Both roles are vital in the accounting industry, serving different market needs.

Are CPAs being offshored?

Offshoring of CPA roles has increased in recent years as firms seek cost savings and access to global talent. Many accounting tasks, such as bookkeeping, tax preparation, and audit support, are now performed remotely by offshore teams, but core CPA responsibilities requiring licensure and local knowledge typically remain onshore. CPAs with specialized skills and certifications are less likely to be offshored due to regulatory and client trust considerations.

Can you make $500,000 a year as an accountant?

Offshore CPAs and experienced accountants in specialized fields such as forensic accounting or financial consulting can potentially earn $500,000 or more annually, especially with advanced certifications like CPA and extensive experience. However, such high earnings are typically associated with senior roles, leadership positions, or working with large clients or firms, and are not common for entry-level or standard accounting positions.

How much do offshore accountants make?

Offshore accountants typically earn between $20,000 and $60,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of tasks. Many work remotely for international firms, often requiring proficiency in accounting software and certifications like CPA or ACCA.
