Primary Function:
AIS is seeking Fisheries Liaison Officers to monitor, document and report commercial fishing activity during offshore surveys and construction. The liaison works approximately 12 hours per day with the possibility to be on call at night when needed.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Document date, time and location of any fishing vessel activity, fixed gear or interactions with survey gear, visibility, sea state, and other environmental conditions
  • Respond and communicate effectively with any fishing vessels in the vicinity of construction or survey operations via VHF radio or single side ban radio
  • Maintain a vigilant lookout for fishing activity or fishing gear in the vicinity of the operational vessel
  • Communicate to the vessel captain, crew, and survey team of any fishing activity or gear sighted and advise them on any information that is relayed from communication with fishing vessels.
  • Conduct protected species observation and serve as back up to the PSO monitoring team

Compensation: Candidates will be paid an hourly wage to be negotiated and total compensation will vary depending on employee's experience. Equipment will be provided. This is a full-time temporary position, however employees will be eligible for benefits once full-time eligibility requirements are met. Meals and lodging provided on vessel.
