The Laboratory Assistant is a laboratory administrative based role focused on assisting and performing tasks and routine laboratory operations to ensure smooth workflow. The tasks are assigned by the Quality Control Manager or Laboratory Technicians.

Compensation
Responsibilities
  • Assist Laboratory technicians in the preparation of samples for analysis and in testing concrete, aggregates, cement, mortar, and other materials, following standard procedures
  • Assist Research Chemists in the preparation of samples for analysis and in testing cement, cementitious and other raw materials
  • Support Lab Technicians and Research Chemists in maintaining and organizing laboratory equipment
  • Maintain clean and orderly workspaces, including department cleaning and routine maintenance, as well as proper sample storage
  • Learn and follow standard operating procedures for basic lab tests and equipment use
  • Accurately log data and maintain records in designated logbooks and computer files
  • Report any issues or inconsistencies to the Lab Technicians, Research Chemists, and/or Laboratory Manager
  • Other duties as assigned by the Lab Manager
Education

High school diploma/GED

Requirements/Qualifications
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb stairs, ladders, bend, and work safely throughout laboratory operations
  • Good communication skills and attention to detail
  • Computer literate in MS Office products, specifically in Excel
  • Basic understanding of laboratory safety and procedures
Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) registration/clearance as well as ongoing alcohol and drug testing.
