Job description

Title: Director of Accounting/Chief Accountant

Location: Omaha, Nebraska or Miami, Florida

Overview

The Chief Accountant/Director of Managerial Accounting is responsible for the management of the accounting function in the Company. The accounting work includes managing payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, invoicing, collections, payments to vendors, and other minor tasks. This position includes a combination of accounting operational and support processes.

Chief Accountant/Director of Managerial Accounting communicates with the CEO and the CFO of the Company every day. Chief Accountant/Director of Managerial Accounting position reports directly to the CEO.

Initial on-the-job training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Calculation and control over the payroll. The payroll is administered by the external payroll company.
  2. Management of accounting related to payroll, including onboarding, calculation of bonuses, and maintenance of pay rates, raises and HR related questions from employees.
  1. Set up new hires in ADP with salary and in the 401(k) company account.
  2. Complete Form I-9 Employee Verifications.
  3. Notarize as needed.
  1. Preparation of the invoicing 2 times per month. The invoices are prepared automatically in the internal ERP system.
  2. Control over the collection of reimbursable expenses and subsequent invoicing to clients. Supervision of the Collection and Reimbursable Expenses Accountant.
  3. Collection of accounts receivable, including calling some clients and supervision of the Collection Specialist.
  4. Timely payment of weekly and monthly bills online and issuing checks.
  5. Depositing checks.
  6. Reconciliation of accounts.
  7. Monthly reporting according to the monthly accounting cycle.
  8. Preparation of the managerial reporting. The Chief Accountant is not responsible for the financial analysis.
  9. Control over the conduct of business transactions, compliance with the processing of accounting information and document flow procedures.
  10. Participate in the development and approval of standard operating procedures (SOP) related to the accounting department.
  11. Project management for the implementation of new accounting software. Communication between developers, IT department, auditors and accounting department of a group of companies in the USA.
  12. Execution of individual orders of the CEO on managerial accounting issues.
  13. Monitoring the work of accountants for transactions with suppliers and contractors.
  14. Monitoring the work of managerial accountants on internal business transactions.
  15. Implementation of the necessary programs and software improvements necessary for maintaining and automating the Company’s accounting.
  16. Training the accounting department employees when needed.
  17. Monitoring the correctness of managerial reporting.
  18. Calculation and timely payment of state taxes.
  19. Providing all necessary information to the CFO for the consolidation of financial statements, financial analysis, budgeting and controlling.
  20. Participation in the budgeting process.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A candidate should have an Accounting or Financial Management degree BBA degree minimum, Masters’ level degree is preferred. Any additional accounting certifications are considered a plus.
  • Experience with Sage, QuickBooks, or other accounting software.
  • Five or more years of accounting experience.
  • HR experience is considered a plus.
  • Chief Accountant or Deputy Accountant experience in a small to medium or family-owned company.
  • Strong communication and project management experience.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently upon receiving information from other accountants, clients, CEO and CFO.
