Position Overview:
We are seeking a high-caliber, self-starting, Senior Accountant to join our corporate accounting team in a public company environment. This role will be responsible for key aspects of the monthly and quarterly close, balance sheet integrity, financial reporting support, and internal control execution. The Senior Accountant will play a meaningful role in ensuring the company's financial results are accurate, timely, and compliant with U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements while supporting a Sarbanes-Oxley compliant internal control environment.
As a direct report of the Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant will be a key member of Ocular's Accounting and Reporting team. This is an ideal opportunity for an accounting professional who combines strong technical accounting fundamentals with a hands-on approach to close and reporting, sound judgment, and the ability to operate effectively in a deadline-driven environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate a high degree of ownership, attention to detail, and accountability, along with the ability to partner cross-functionally while continuously improving processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Corporate Accounting and Close
• Prepare and complete journal entries, account reconciliations, rollforwards, and supporting schedules as part of the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement close process.
• Ensure the integrity of the general ledger and underlying financial data, including appropriate classification, cut-off, and compliance with U.S. GAAP.
• Perform detailed balance sheet and income statement analyses, identify unusual trends or variances, and proactively resolve discrepancies.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with other groups within the organization to ensure that accounting-relevant information is incorporated and processed timely while maintaining high-quality support and documentation for key accounting conclusions, estimates, and close deliverables.
• Support the timely completion of close activities in accordance with the company's reporting calendar and internal deadlines.
Internal Financial Reporting and Public Company Support
• Assist in the maintenance and develop consistency between internal accounting records and external financial reporting outputs.
• Assist in drafting and compiling schedules for internal financial reporting packages.
• Serve as a point of contact for external audit and quarterly review requests within assigned areas.
• Provide clear, organized, and timely support for audit selections, PBC requests, and control testing.
• Play an active role supporting the Accounting and Reporting leadership in maintaining an effective control environment (SOX 404) through the creation and maintenance of documentation to support design, operating effectiveness and testing of internal controls over financial reporting.
• Support adoption and implementation of new accounting standards, accounting policies, and process changes.
• Assist with special or ad-hoc projects as well as other accounting and reporting related matters as required.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; CPA license a plus.
• Combination of public accounting and/or public company industry experience strongly preferred.
• 3-6+ years of relevant and progressive experience, thereof at least 2 years of experience in an accounting and financial reporting team of a publicly traded company, with preference to the life sciences industry.
• Strong Excel skills, including the ability to work with large data sets, build reconciliations, and perform meaningful analysis.
• Experience working in an ERP environment and using financial systems effectively.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document and explain accounting matters.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
