Job description

Waste Connections is seeking a DevOps Engineer to support and modernize the CI/CD platform that powers our product, data, and enterprise application teams. This role will lead the migration of applications from Octopus Deploy and TeamCity to GitHub Actions while supporting platform automation, standardization, and operational excellence. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with a collaborative approach to driving DevOps best practices across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the migration of applications from Octopus Deploy and TeamCity to GitHub Actions using established migration frameworks and standards.
  • Support and maintain self-hosted GitHub Actions runner infrastructure and related CI/CD platform components.
  • Design, develop, and maintain reusable workflows, templates, and automation solutions that improve deployment efficiency and consistency.
  • Manage infrastructure-as-code resources, deployment configurations, and operational documentation.
  • Partner with development teams to modernize build, release, and deployment processes.
  • Support GitHub Enterprise administration, governance, security, and platform optimization efforts.
  • Develop and maintain runbooks, rollback procedures, and operational best practices.
  • Collaborate with platform, data, and application teams to ensure reliable and scalable delivery pipelines.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or a related role.
  • Experience building and supporting CI/CD pipelines and automation solutions.
  • Working knowledge of GitHub Actions, source control management, and software delivery practices.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Linux-based systems, and infrastructure-as-code tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.

Strongly Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience migrating applications between CI/CD platforms, including Octopus Deploy, TeamCity, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or similar technologies.
  • Experience administering GitHub Enterprise, including governance, access controls, and organizational standards.
  • Proficiency with Terraform, Helm, ArgoCD, or other infrastructure automation and deployment tools.
  • Experience supporting cloud-native environments in Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Familiarity with application modernization initiatives and containerized workloads.
  • Experience supporting enterprise data, analytics, or platform engineering teams.
