Job description

Job Overview:
The Database Administrator (DBA) will provide Tier III support for Oracle Database systems in production and lab environments, ensuring operational continuity until a replacement system is deployed. The role focuses on Oracle Database administration, including troubleshooting, maintenance, patching, upgrades, and performance monitoring, while supporting WebLogic and Java components related to database functionality. The DBA will collaborate with project leads and contractors, adhering to security compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Resolve Oracle Database outages or issues in production and lab environments.
  • Update trouble tickets within 24 hours (acknowledgment) and 48 hours (milestones).
  • Estimate fix scope, time, and cost, coordinating with leads for approvals on high-risk changes or upgrades.
  • Perform routine maintenance (e.g., managing certificates, purging logs, minor configurations, health checks). 
  • Submit a draft Database Maintenance Plan (30 days post-award) and final plan (45 days post-award).
  • Apply patches and STIGs to Oracle Database systems in the lab, ensuring compliance for OS and database applications.
  • Provide STIG and security scan data for accreditation processes.
  • Consult leads if patches disrupt systems or incur costs, proposing alternatives.
  • Plan and execute Oracle Database upgrades, including a planned upgrade during the performance period. 
  • Test upgrades and configurations in the lab before production deployment. 
  • Troubleshoot database issues from security scans and support WebLogic/Java integration.
  • Collect and report monthly Oracle Database metrics (e.g., query performance, storage, throughput) by the 15th.
  • Manage lab database access and, in emergencies, production access with approval. 
  • Coordinate with project leads and attend meetings.
  • Deliver quarterly plans, guides, test reports, and change forms; submit monthly activity reports.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience). 
  • Experience:
    • 5+ years in Oracle Database administration. 
    • Experience with WebLogic/Java integration, patching, and STIG compliance. 
    • Tier III database support in secure environments.
  • Skills:
    • Troubleshooting, backup/recovery, and performance optimization for Oracle Database. 
    • Knowledge of database security and IA-driven upgrades. 
    • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Clearance: Active Top Secret with access to specified systems. 
  • Certifications (Preferred): Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), CompTIA Security+.
Work Environment:
  • Support high-side systems with sensitive database information. 
  • Collaborate with Tier II/IV contractors and leads. 
  • Lab access with emergency-only production database access.
