ALCO Designs is a manufacturer of custom merchandising displays serving leading supermarket chains across the United States. We specialize in fresh departments including produce, bakery, meat, seafood, and floral. Our work requires precision, timing, and strong operational coordination.
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Logistics & Freight Manager responsible for coordinating ocean freight imports and domestic LTL and FTL shipments. This role ensures smooth logistical execution from port arrival to final delivery while maintaining cost control, documentation accuracy, and clear communication.
This is an on-site role based in Gardena, CA.

Overview

The Freight Manager will oversee ocean import shipments, coordinate inland transportation, manage carrier relationships, prepare required documentation, and ensure shipments move on schedule. This position plays a critical role in maintaining project timelines and customer satisfaction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Ocean Freight & Import Coordination

  • Coordinate ocean freight shipments for import
  • Work directly with customs brokers to ensure timely clearance
  • Review and prepare documentation for U.S. Customs compliance
  • Verify commercial invoices, packing lists, and bills of lading
  • Monitor cargo arrival and coordinate inland transportation from port
Domestic Freight Management (LTL & FTL)

  • Schedule and manage LTL and FTL shipments
  • Obtain competitive freight quotes and manage bookings
  • Coordinate warehouse pickups and final delivery scheduling
  • Track shipments daily and proactively resolve delays
Carrier & Vendor Communication

  • Maintain professional communication with carriers, brokers, and agents
  • Negotiate rates when applicable
  • Manage freight claims and damage resolution
Inventory & Shipment Oversight

  • Oversee inventory coordination related to inbound shipments
  • Ensure accurate staging and dispatch from warehouse
  • Align shipping schedules with project deadlines
Reporting & Cost Control

  • Monitor freight spend and cost accuracy
  • Review freight invoices for discrepancies
  • Provide updates to management regarding shipment status and issues
Required Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of ocean freight import procedures
  • Experience coordinating LTL and FTL domestic freight
  • Understanding of customs documentation and compliance
  • High attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Strong follow-through and accountability
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple shipments simultaneously
  • Professional communication skills
Qualifications
  • 3–5 years experience in ocean freight, logistics, or related industry
  • Hands-on experience with LTL and FTL coordination required
  • Experience working with customs brokers preferred
  • Proficiency in Excel and freight tracking systems

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required
  • Experience in a manufacturing or project-based environment preferred
