Become a Laguna Ocean Foundation Volunteer!
Love the ocean? Make a difference while exploring one of Southern California's most incredible coastal ecosystems.
Join Laguna Ocean Foundation (LOF) and help protect Laguna Beach's Marine Protected Area by educating visitors about tidepool animals, responsible exploration, and conservation. Our dedicated volunteers inspire more than 70,000 visitors each year, helping preserve the rocky intertidal habitat for future generations.
As an LOF volunteer, you'll have the opportunity to:
· Serve as a Tidewater Docent at local tidepools along Laguna Beach’s coastline
· Meet people from around the world while sharing your passion for the ocean
· Spot fascinating tidepool creatures, seabirds, and marine mammals
· Support conservation through community outreach, classroom programs, research, beach cleanups, and more
No prior experience is required, we provide training! New volunteers attend an orientation, two field training sessions, and complete an online Marine Protected Area certification. Tidewater Docents commit to just two 3-hour shifts per month, with flexible scheduling based on low-tide daylight hours.
Not interested in volunteering at the tidepools? There are plenty of other ways to get involved, including community events, educational programs, research, beach cleanups, lesson plan development, and organizational support.
