Responsibilities

The successful applicant will join ATR's Engineering Services Division as a Junior Ocean Engineer at the Naval Surface Warfare Center South Florida Ocean Measurement Facility (SFOMF). Duties include:

  • Conceptualizing components and assemblies to solve ocean engineering problems.
  • Supporting electro‑mechanical projects that consider ocean environments.
  • Designing, fabricating, assembling, and integrating ocean systems.
  • Troubleshooting laboratory and field electro‑mechanical systems.
  • Preparing formal design drawings and documentation with appropriate software tools.
  • Analyzing underwater sensor data using DSP and AI/ML techniques for target detection.
  • Developing project and test plans and conducting land/ocean‑based field tests and demonstrations.
  • Supporting at‑sea testing, including ship checks, deployment planning, and maintenance of winches, cranes, and other equipment.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • Advanced degree in Ocean Engineering.
  • At least 1 year of ocean engineering or marine industry experience.
  • Experience with developing and implementing AI/ML algorithms for large underwater sensor data analysis.
  • Experience with underwater sensor data packages for algorithm ingestion.
  • Experience analyzing side‑scan sonar data.
  • Experience with acoustic testing, data acquisition, and data analysis.
  • Previous job experience with the Navy or other DoD laboratories is a plus.
Skills & Abilities Requirements
  • Ability to apply a diverse set of skills to solve complex problems related to the ocean environment.
  • Proficient in SOLIDWORKS, Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Proficient in OrcaFlex, ANSYS, Python, and MATLAB.
  • Assisting with offshore operations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Travel to other Navy sites may be required occasionally.
Other Requirements

Candidate must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance or favorable adjudication of a national security background investigation. Current successful background investigation completion is a plus.
