General Description
The Physical Sciences Center (PSC) Tutor assists students with their lecture and lab material, related to chemistry or physics, during scheduled hours in the Physical Sciences Center.
Reports To
Physical Sciences Lab Supervisor
What position(s) reports to this position?
None
Minimum Education/Experience
Must be a current OCCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours for the Fall or Spring semester or enrolled in a minimum of 3 hours for the Summer semester.
OR
Must be a current OCCC student with a Federal Work Study award.
AND
Must provide documentation exhibiting the grade of B (or better) in any course(s) they plan to assist students with for the PSC.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to observe and detect signs of hazards and obstacles that may cause injury to students and staff in the Physical Sciences Center and Labs
Basic computer skills
Knowledge relevant to tutoring any course work for which the applicant is applying.
Maintain a clean and organized work and storage area
Must be able to adhere to policies, procedures and guidelines to assure personal safety, and the safety of other personnel
Must be able to independently perform the essential responsibilities of the position
Must be adept at problem-solving and conflict resolution
Must be punctual and reliable
Must demonstrate effective communication, customer service expertise, and human relations skills while performing at work
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Light work: This position requires the person to occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force.
2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to students, faculty, staff, and others to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.
This position requires the person to frequently move about the PSC to assist students and perform the essential functions of the position.
This position frequently requires the person to operate a computer and other office/lab equipment to perform the essential functions of the position.
This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that involves repetitive motions of hands and wrists.
This position requires the person to frequently remain in a standing and stationary position.
This position requires the person to occasionally position self to access materials that may be above head or at ground level.
3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.
4. WORKING CONDITIONS
This position's essential functions are performed in an indoor, office setting.

Required Training
All OCCC training that is appropriate for this position when offered.
Work Hours
Flexible work schedule ranging from 10 - 25 hours per week, may include nights or weekends depending on PSC operational requirements. Hours are set each semester. Schedules will respect the students course load demands.

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement)
Assist in opening or closing the PSC following procedures as assigned.
Assist PSC staff with general maintenance and house-keeping of communal areas.
Assist with administrative tasks in the PSC including answering phones, directing students, answering general questions about the PSC and campus.
Effectively interact and communicate with students, faculty and staff while performing duties.
Participate in training offered by OCCC appropriate to this position to remain effective in this positions assigned duties.
PSC Tutor will assist students with their lecture material, lab work, and special projects in person or via zoom during their work hours in the PSC.

Abide by the policies and procedures published in the Board of Regents Policies and College Policies & Procedures.
Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.
Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.
Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC's established safety and health procedures and practices.
Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation, shelter in place drills and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
