About Us: Meals on Wheels Orange County is the largest nonprofit provider of nutrition and supportive services for at-risk older adults in Central and North Orange County. Our mission is to combat hunger and loneliness among older adults through nutritious meals, friendly visits, and safety checks, and to support families through day services. We deliver nearly 2 million meals annually to 20,000 at-risk older adults.

Location: Various locations through out North and South Orange County

Hours: Part Time/ Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM (25 hours per week)

Hourly Range: $17.50 - $20.50 per hour (Hourly rate will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and experience)


JOB SUMMARY: This floater position is responsible for the oversight of the Home Delivered Meal Program based out of 19 different sites in North Orange County. Responsibilities include any of the following: receiving and delivering meals, serving meals to seniors, prepping and reheating meals for service, greeting participants and drivers, completing front desk duties and intake paperwork, managing volunteers support during lunch service hours, maintaining records/reports and submitting daily when needed, and performing other job related tasks as appropriate. Site Floater will be given a site(s) to visit daily to support staff, seniors and volunteers. Starting and ending location will vary each day. Mileage will be reimbursed monthly.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assists in serving hot meals to seniors, greeting participants, working with volunteers, and pre/post kitchen clean-up.
  2. Delivers Home Delivered Meal when volunteer drivers call out.
  3. Communicates with staff and volunteers and provides daily guidance for site process and procedure.
  4. Submits daily communication forms and prepares accurate and timely reports related to meals served, seconds/waste, delivery, donations, and volunteer hours, if applicable.
  5. Takes and maintains temperature control standards at delivery and time of service. Document all undelivered food immediately, return deliverable foods to proper storage area and dispose of unsafe foods, only if advised.
  6. Responsible for the proper processing and handling of meal donations to Accounting according to Meals on Wheels OC policy guidelines.
  7. Practices safe operating procedures and food handling procedures while observing all safety regulations and Meals on Wheels OC protocol.
  8. Provides staff support to congregate sites in the absence of the Site Manager, Kitchen Supervisor, and/or during special events.
  9. Assists, supports and communicates with paid and volunteers delivery drivers daily.
  10. Provides regular social contact with participants during the congregate lunch program to promote wellness and socialization.
  11. Reports any staff, participant and/or volunteer related injury/emergency to Supervisor/City staff immediately. Incident report to be completed same day when injury/emergency occur.
  12. Completes APS referrals when needed as required by being a mandated reporter.
  13. Attends staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  14. Desire to make a difference in the lives of seniors.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Associates degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Some experience supervising and directing staff and/or volunteers.
  • Experience in food service program a strong plus.
  • Must be able to work well with a variety of groups including seniors, volunteers, staff, management, and outside agencies.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to read, interpret, and implement policy and procedure.
  • Must have their own, reliable transportation, valid California Driver’s license, and automobile insurance as required by State Law.
  • Bilingual a plus (Spanish).
  • ServSafe Certification completed by employer within first 120 days of employment. Paid for by employer.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Daily travel to different sites as needed for staff coverage in North Orange County. Each day will begin and end at different locations.
  • Constantly extends body, arms or hands as needed to perform essential duties and responsibilities.
  • Constantly ascends/descends and occasionally positions self as needed to complete essential duties and responsibilities.
  • Constantly speaks, communicates, interprets or exchanges information accurately.
  • Constantly distinguishes differences or similarities in intensity or quality of flavors and odors.
  • Frequently using computer or intake scanning equipment and laptops.
  • Frequently moves, transports, and positions objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
