Description
Join our dedicated healthcare team as a Patient Observer, a vital role committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of patients within the hospital. In this position, you will provide supervision of patients who require close monitoring and help create a secure environment for both patients and staff. Day and Night shifts available.
Primary responsibilities will focus on patient safety. The patient safety observer position will help maintain a safe and secure environment. Patient monitoring and observation are essential to the patient safety observer role. Levels of observation include routine safety checks, constant observation (1:1) and line of sight observation. Responding to behavioral emergencies and assisting in the management of these patients is required. The patient safety observer will also assist with patient admissions to the units including patient belongings checks and contraband search. The patient safety observer will also provide general floor support. Helping to restock supplies, escorting patients off the unit for diagnostic testing, and couriering samples to the lab are examples.
  • Maintains patient safety while monitoring patients. Maintains required observation levels and therapeutic boundaries on all assigned patients. Maintain

  • Assists in management of patients including verbal de-escalation, physical restraint, and close observation.
  • Documents in accordance with assigned responsibilities including seclusion and restraint monitoring.
  • Responds to Codes internally and in other departments when able.
  • Assists in conducting room searches when deemed necessary.
  • Able to identify contraband in accordance with approved protocols.
  • Demonstrates the ability to check unsecured rooms/areas, doors, and windows during routine rounds.
  • Accurately records patient belongings
  • Assists in transferring patient valuables to and from the hospital safe.
  • Uses approved crisis intervention techniques in an effective manner
  • Able to apply restraints in a safe and effective manner.
  • Able to accurately document patient information as required.
  • Promptly communicates issues related to the unit and patient safety to direct care staff.
  • Treats visitors and employees in a courteous manner; is supportive of those who may be having difficulties.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Certification in basic life support (BLS) is required to ensure preparedness for emergency situations is required.
