Job Summary:
The Store Protection Specialist (SPS) is responsible for creating a safe and secure shopping environment while supporting sales floor operations and delivering excellent customer service. The SPS serves as a visible deterrent to theft through strong customer engagement, awareness, and execution of Ross's Shortage One Plan initiatives.
This position helps reduce shrink by maintaining a high level of command presence, monitoring store activity, identifying shortage opportunities, and supporting operational compliance. The SPS partners closely with Store Leadership to promote a clean, safe, and customer-focused shopping experience.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Provide exceptional customer service by greeting and engaging customers throughout the store.
  • Maintain a highly visible presence at store entrances, exits, and high-risk areas.
  • Support Ross's Shortage One Plan through proactive shortage awareness and prevention.
  • Monitor store activity and identify potential theft, fraud, and safety concerns.
  • Communicate observations and concerns to Store Leadership and Loss Prevention partners as appropriate.
  • Perform safety inspections and identify hazards that could impact customers or associates.
  • Support Emergency Response procedures and assist with incident documentation.
  • Monitor fitting room areas and other shortage-sensitive locations.
  • Ensure merchandise protection devices, EAS tags, and security fixtures are utilized correctly.
  • Observe and report operational compliance opportunities related to shortage control.
  • Build positive working relationships with store associates and leadership teams.
  • Support a clean, safe, organized, and customer-ready sales floor.
  • Complete all required training and company-directed reporting accurately and on time.
  • Assist with maintaining a welcoming environment that supports both customer satisfaction and shortage reduction.

Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous retail, customer service, security, loss prevention, or asset protection experience preferred.
  • Strong observation and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain alert and focused in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with customers, associates, and leadership.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to complete required reports and documentation.
  • Reliable attendance and schedule flexibility, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to move throughout all areas of the store.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to observe activities across large retail environments.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced retail setting.
