Object Detection Intern information

What does an Object Detection Intern do?

An Object Detection Intern typically assists in developing and testing machine learning models that identify and locate objects within images or videos. They work with datasets, annotate images, train neural networks, and evaluate model performance using metrics like precision and recall. Interns often collaborate with data scientists and engineers to improve algorithms and deploy real-time object detection systems. This role helps interns gain hands-on experience with computer vision tools and deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Object Detection Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Object Detection Intern, you need a solid background in computer vision, machine learning, and programming languages like Python, often supported by coursework or a related degree. Familiarity with frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and OpenCV, as well as experience with object detection models like YOLO or Faster R-CNN, is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you stand out in collaborative research and development environments. These competencies are crucial for building accurate models, efficiently solving technical challenges, and contributing meaningfully to the team's projects.

What are the typical projects and tasks an Object Detection Intern might work on during their internship?

As an Object Detection Intern, you will typically work on tasks such as annotating and preprocessing datasets, training and evaluating deep learning models (like YOLO or Faster R-CNN), and experimenting with different architectures to improve detection accuracy. You'll often collaborate closely with data scientists, machine learning engineers, and software developers to integrate your models into larger systems. Interns may also be involved in error analysis and iterative model improvement, providing hands-on experience with the full machine learning workflow in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Job description

PlusAI is a Physical AI company pioneering AI-based virtual driver software for factory-built autonomous trucks. Headquartered in Silicon Valley with operations in the United States and Europe, Plus was named by Fast Company as one of the World's Most Innovative Companies. Partners including TRATON GROUP's Scania, MAN, and International brands, Hyundai Motor Company, Iveco Group, Bosch, and DSV are working with Plus to accelerate the deployment of next-generation autonomous trucks. If you're ready to make a huge impact and drive the future of autonomy, Plus is looking for talented individuals to join its fast-growing teams.
We are seeking a Research Engineer Intern to join the Localization & Mapping team at Plus, focusing on a project to build and validate a closed-loop "long-tail data engine" that improves generic-object detection on a curated long-tail benchmark. The project will first establish a measurable long-tail evaluation benchmark from existing logs. Then a prototype of the data engine will be built using a combination of simulation tools, automated data mining, and foundation models.
Responsibilities:

Required Skills:
  • Pursuing MS or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Software design and development experience in Python and C++
  • Experience in 3D computer vision.

Preferred Skills:
  • Publication record in relevant venues (CVPR, ICLR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS, AAAI, SIGGRAPH, ICRA, IROS, etc.)
