How much do ob rn jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 19, 2026, the average hourly pay for ob rn in Tennessee is $38.34, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $28.56 and $45.38 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges faced by OB RNs when balancing patient care with administrative tasks?

OB RNs often juggle the demands of providing hands-on patient care with completing necessary documentation and administrative duties. Managing multiple patients in labor, coordinating with physicians and support staff, and ensuring all charting is accurate and timely can be challenging, especially during busy shifts. Effective time management, prioritization, and strong communication skills are essential to maintain high-quality care while meeting compliance requirements. Many OB units offer team-based support and leverage electronic health records to help streamline these tasks.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an OB RN, and why are they important?

To thrive as an OB RN, you need a solid background in maternal and newborn nursing care, labor and delivery procedures, and a current RN license, often with certification in obstetrics (RNC-OB) or neonatal resuscitation (NRP). Familiarity with fetal monitoring systems, electronic health records (EHRs), and specialized obstetric equipment is typically required. Compassion, effective communication, and the ability to remain calm under pressure help OB RNs support patients and families through significant life events. These skills ensure safe, competent care for mothers and infants while fostering trust and positive outcomes in a high-stakes environment.

What are OB RNs?

OB RNs, or Obstetric Registered Nurses, are specialized nurses who care for women during pregnancy, labor, childbirth, and postpartum recovery. They play a critical role in monitoring the health of both mother and baby, assisting during labor and deliveries, providing education on childbirth and newborn care, and supporting families through the birthing process. OB RNs often work in maternity wards, labor and delivery units, and clinics, collaborating closely with obstetricians and other healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for their patients.

Job description

CRNA โ€“ Independent Contractor | Jackson, Tennessee Area

CRNA Autonomy | 1099 Opportunity

A well-established, independent anesthesia group is seeking an experienced Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to join their tight-knit team at a community hospital in the Jackson, Tennessee area.

This is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity offering outstanding professional autonomy, exceptional compensation, generous time off, and the chance to plant roots in one of the most scenic and affordable regions of the mid-South.

About the Opportunity
This role is ideal for a CRNA who values clinical independence, a collaborative team environment, and a lifestyle that larger metro markets simply cannot offer. You will join a small, collegial group of just three CRNAs practicing with full autonomy - no mandatory physician supervision. If you are a confident, self-directed CRNA ready to practice at the full scope of your training, this position was built for you.

The surgical volume is steady and manageable - approximately 150 cases per month - with a case mix that includes general surgery, bread-and-butter anesthesia, and obstetrics (approximately 20 OB cases per month). There is no orthopedic surgery. This is a clean, focused practice with a predictable and sustainable workload.

Schedule & Call
This group operates on a simple, rotating three-week cycle that delivers an exceptional work-life balance:
โˆ™Week 1: Active shift coverage
โˆ™Week 2: Home call - call-back is very rare
โˆ™Week 3: Vacation

That structure results in an extraordinary 17 weeks of vacation per year - virtually unmatched in the CRNA market. If time away from the hospital matters to you, this schedule speaks for itself.
Compensation
โˆ™$325,000 annually - 1099 Independent Contractor
โˆ™17 weeks of vacation per year built into the rotation
โˆ™Maximize your tax flexibility and take-home earnings as an independent contractor

Practice Highlights
โˆ™Full CRNA autonomy - independent practice, no mandatory physician supervision
โˆ™Small, experienced team of 3 CRNAs - collaborative and drama-free
โˆ™~150 cases/month including B&B and OB (~20/month) - no orthopedics
โˆ™Predictable rotating schedule with very light call burden
โˆ™Stable, independent group - no private equity involvement

About the Area
The Jackson, Tennessee area sits in the heart of West Tennessee, offering an exceptional quality of life at a fraction of the cost of major metro markets. The surrounding region is home to the beautiful Tennessee River and Pickwick Lake - a paradise for fishing, boating, and outdoor recreation. Housing is affordable, the community is welcoming, and the pace of life is refreshingly manageable. Memphis is approximately 90 minutes away, giving you easy access to a major city whenever you want it - without the daily grind of urban living.
For CRNAs who grew up in a rural or small-town setting, are looking to escape the chaos of a large hospital system, or are simply ready to put down roots somewhere that truly feels like home - this area deserves a serious look.

Qualifications
โˆ™Current CRNA licensure in Tennessee (or eligibility to obtain)
โˆ™Graduate of an accredited nurse anesthesia program
โˆ™Active NBCRNA certification
โˆ™Minimum 1 year of clinical experience
โˆ™Comfortable practicing independently in a community hospital setting
โˆ™OB anesthesia experience preferred
