What is an Ob Gyn surgical tech?

Ob Gyn Surgical Techs, also known as Obstetrics and Gynecology Surgical Technologists, are specialized healthcare professionals who assist surgeons during obstetric and gynecological procedures. They prepare the operating room, sterilize instruments, and ensure all necessary supplies are ready for surgeries such as cesarean sections, hysterectomies, and other reproductive health operations. These techs play a critical role in maintaining a sterile environment and supporting the surgical team to ensure patient safety and successful outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Ob Gyn surgical tech?

To thrive as an OB GYN Surgical Tech, you need a solid understanding of surgical procedures, sterile techniques, and anatomy, typically supported by a surgical technology certification or diploma. Familiarity with surgical instruments, electronic health records (EHR) systems, and operating room protocols is essential. These competencies ensure patient safety, efficient surgical operations, and effective collaboration in high-stakes clinical environments.

What are some common challenges faced by Ob Gyn surgical techs during surgical procedures, and how can they be managed?
