Job description

Olive + Oak
Server
About Olive + Oak
Olive + Oak is a James Beard Foundation award-nominated restaurant in Webster Groves. Founded in 2016, we are known for our seasonally changing menus created by Executive Chef Jesse Mendica, with a commitment to sourcing only the best local and imported ingredients. Our food is refined yet approachable—guests can enjoy anything from a burger and a can of Busch to a coursed meal with Champagne, oysters, and ribeye. We also offer vegetarian and vegan options and take great care to accommodate guests with allergies or dietary restrictions.
Who We Need
We are seeking experienced, hospitable Servers who thrive on delivering exceptional guest experiences and possess a strong working knowledge of food and wine. You will showcase confidence in selling wine, expertly guide guests through our ever-evolving food and beverage offerings, and serve as a trusted resource on all aspects of the Olive + Oak guest experience.
What You’ll Do
  • Arrive before service to set up the dining room and ensure readiness for guests.
  • Attend daily pre-service line-up meetings for menu and service updates (including food, beverage, and wine features).
  • Provide genuine, heartfelt hospitality to each guest throughout dinner service.
  • Confidently recommend and sell wines; maintain detailed knowledge of varietals, regions, and flavor profiles to suggest pairings to guests.
  • Collaborate with other servers and support staff.
  • Perform light side-work duties and maintain cleanliness throughout and after service.
  • Continuously update and expand your knowledge of items and ingredients on our daily-changing menus.
Our Ideal Candidate
  • Wine-Savvy amp; Confident: You have proven success in wine sales or a strong passion for wine, with the ability to guide guests through selections and pairings.
  • Engaging amp; Personable: You’re comfortable hosting guests as if welcoming them into your own home, with a knack for reading the table’s energy and making warm, genuine connections.
  • Adaptable amp; Collaborative: You love being part of a team, quickly learn new menu items, and are flexible with nightly changes.
  • Detail-Oriented amp; Committed: You take pride in providing exceptional service while following high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety.
Scheduling
  • This position requires evening availability; typical hours range from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
  • Both full-time (30+ hours) and part-time roles are available. Four shift per week minimum required for consideration for either.
  • Sunday availability required.
Compensation amp; Benefits
  • Competitive tipped compensation
  • Pay included for orientation and extensive 1:1 menu and wine training
  • A supportive team environment with a strong focus on professional development
  • Paid-time-off, 401(k), and Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance available to full-time employees
Core Values
  1. Heartfelt Hospitality amp; Attentive Service: We go out of our way to make guests feel good and believe dining out should combine the excitement of going out with the comfort of coming home.
  2. Consistently Delivering Quality: We source top-tier ingredients and craft menus that leave a lasting, positive impression. No aspect of the experience is an afterthought.
  3. Creating a Place Where People Want to Work: We foster a culture of pride, respect, and camaraderie among our team members.
  4. Contributing to Our Community: We dedicate time and resources to our community, and to the two charitable foundations run by our founders, believing that giving back makes our business stronger.
