Security Guard / Receptionist
The Security Guard / Receptionist provides a welcoming environment and a strong sense of safety for the community at Essex Community Center @ 175 Delancey St. and Rose Center @ 80 Pitt St. They are responsible for visitor management, handling in-person and phone inquiries, and receiving and distributing packages on a daily basis. Additionally, the Security Guard / Receptionist will act as the liaison to NYPD and NYFD and all internal stakeholders on matters related to safety, security, and emergency management.
Education, Experience and Skill Requirements:
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent
- Security Guard license required
- Previous youth-based/school/community center security experience
- Good conflict mediation and public relations skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and with minimal guidance
- Previous experience working with a diverse population
- The ideal candidate must be personable, energetic, and enthusiastic
- Candidates must successfully complete the following: NYSDOH Fingerprinting Screening; New York State Clearance Review Background Check; three (3) Reference Checks; Physical with updated TB Test (Fees may apply)
- Valid CPR/AED Pro-certification through a recognized accrediting body preferred
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Greet visitors/employees warmly and professionally upon entering, address their inquiries and direct them to the appropriate locations
- Logs medical or safety-related incidents
- Manage and mediate all conflicts
- Responds to all emergencies (i.e. medical, unsafe areas, trespassing, altercations, etc.)
- Controls the flow of traffic so that only scheduled participants are allowed in the building or into appropriate program areas
- Maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders, program participants, families, community members and program staff
- Keep the lobby clear of unauthorized persons, including loitering children, adults, or adolescents
- Aware of the daily agenda and schedule of the building
- Manage registration forms and process identification cards for program participants (as needed)
- Monitor, access, and review security footage as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Additional Qualifications:
- Candidate must be able to sit or stand for long periods, climb stairs, and lift or move up 50 lbs.
- Familiarity with the latest visitor management software and security-related technology is a plus
- Must be able to obtain Certificates of Fitness as needed
