Special Education Teacher (SETSS) | Yiddish Speaking | Full-Time School Day | Brooklyn, NY

Overview/Impact

Are you a passionate Special Education Teacher ready to make a significant impact on students' academic development in the Brooklyn area? Knowledge Road is seeking a full-time Special Education Teacher (SETSS) to join our team and provide essential support for students in NYC Department of Education (DOE) schools. With a substantial shortage city-wide of qualified special education teachers, your skills are urgently needed to help students get the personalized instruction they need. This provides the chance to work directly with students who need specialized academic assistance, supporting them in achieving their learning goals through targeted intervention and evidence-based teaching.

As a SETSS teacher with Knowledge Road, you'll provide individualized and small-group instruction in educational settings, working closely with families and school teams to promote student progress and academic success.

Responsibilities

As a Special Education Teacher (SETSS) with Knowledge Road, you will:

  • Provide high-quality, individualized, and small-group instruction for students with disabilities, as outlined in their Individualized Education Service Programs (IESP).

  • Ensure fulfillment of each individual student's weekly IESP mandates and keep an intervention schedule coordinated with the school schedule.

  • Develop and submit quarterly progress reports and maintain regular family communication with updates on progress and upcoming steps.

  • Record service delivery and student performance in Knowledge Road's system with precise and timely documentation.

  • Develop and execute engaging and effective lesson plans that meet the unique academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student.

  • Collaborate with parents, teachers, and other school staff to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students.

  • Monitor and assess student progress, offering regular updates to families and school-based teams.

  • Participate in IESP meetings as required, providing expert insights and recommendations to support student achievement.

Qualifications

  • Valid NYS Students with Disabilities (B-2, 1-6, 7-12, or All Grades) or NYS Literacy Specialist.

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.

  • Must not have been employed by NYC DOE within the last 12 months.

  • Experience teaching Mathematics and ELA.

  • Dependable transportation.

  • NYC DOE fingerprinting status/approval is required, or willingness to complete prior to start.

Schedule & Location

This is a full-time, school-day role with a schedule aligned with the NYC DOE calendar. Services will be delivered on-site at a school in the Brooklyn area, with placements based on student needs. Weekly hours are based on IESP mandates; caseload may vary by placement. Typically ~20-30 hours/week, depending on placements, with extra cases and hours available through coordination with our recruitment team.

Compensation

$60 - $100 per hour (1099). Rates differ by group size and placement. Individual IESP sessions typically begin at $60/hr
