Job description

Job Title and Overview

Nurse Practitioner – Inpatient BMT at Jacobs Medical Center, Cancer Center, 90% appointment, 12‑hour shifts Monday‑Sunday. Salary commensurate with experience. Union: NX Contract.

DESCRIPTION

As the NP under the direction of the BMT attending physician and APP Supervisor, you will provide primary medical management for oncology/BMT patients, lead by example, and act as a liaison within the BMT Program. You will perform specialized procedures such as bone marrow biopsy, lumbar puncture, and skin biopsy. You will present patient cases during daily rounds and weekly BMT Clinical meetings, provide education to patients/families and staff, support policy development, and participate in research and community outreach. You may provide care to BMT patients in the outpatient center at the Moores Cancer Center and expand your role as needs change.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate of an accredited nurse practitioner program.
  • California RN license, California NP license, and California NP Furnishing License Certification.
  • Current Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification (AGACNP or ACNP).
  • BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at hire with commitment to obtain ART within six months.
  • Minimum one year recent work experience as NP in Oncology, BMT, or adult critical care.
  • Thorough knowledge of BMT and CAR‑T process and hematologic blood cancers, including pathology and expected outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand medical and psychosocial needs of patients with cancer.
  • High professionalism and excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to function as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Excellent assessment skills and ability to make clinically sound decisions in a fast‑paced, constantly changing environment.
  • Comfort in group teaching and willingness to engage in community outreach.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • AOCN (Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse) or AOCNP certification.
  • One to two years recent inpatient Hem/Onc/BMT experience as NP.
  • Knowledge of chemotherapy and marrow transplant medication administration.
  • Experience in quality improvement.
  • Experience in clinical trials and ability to identify potential trial patients.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • May be required to work various hours, days, shifts, on‑call and locations based on 24‑hour Medical Center needs.
  • Subject to criminal background check and pre‑employment physical.
  • Must obtain and maintain UCSD Medical Staff privileges.
  • Clinical advanced practice experience must be within last two years.
  • Current UCSD NPIII employees may be hired at the NPIII level pending review and approval.
PAY RANGE

Annual Full Pay Range: $176,624 - $247,157 (prorated for appointment percentages < 100%). Hourly Equivalent: $84.59 - $118.37. Compensation is based on experience, skills, licensure, and other factors.
