Job description

Description:

A.T Still University's Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) is seeking a non-exempt, part-time Student Research Assistant on the Kirksville, Missouri Campus. The Research Assistant (RA) will support the implementation of the Equity-Focused Participation Assessment Toolkit (EPAT), a project funded by the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) Emerging Innovators Grant. The position provides hands-on experience in educational research, data collection, and equity-focused curriculum development in medical education. The Student Research Assistant Reports to the Principal Investigator of the NBME Grant.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with data collection through surveys, focus groups, and feedback forms involving medical students and faculty.
  • Support literature review and synthesis of research on equitable assessment and implicit bias.
  • Coordinate and assist with faculty development workshops, including preparation of materials, attendance tracking, and feedback compilation.
  • Help manage project-related files, meeting notes, and communications in Microsoft Teams and Qualtrics.
  • Assist with qualitative data coding and analysis using software tools such as NVivo.
  • Participate in biweekly project meetings and contribute to toolkit refinement discussions.
  • Prepare visual and written content for reports, presentations, and dissemination efforts.

The Research Assistant will receive direct mentorship from the principal investigator and collaborating faculty. Training will include:

  • Research ethics and IRB procedures for educational research.
  • Qualitative coding and data management using NVivo.
  • Workshop facilitation and communication strategies in academic settings.
  • Exposure to equity-centered assessment frameworks and bias mitigation in medical education.
Requirements:

Skills & Experience

  • Enrolled undergraduate or graduate student at Truman State University.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in education, diversity/equity, or health sciences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and willingness to learn software such as Qualtrics or NVivo.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive educational data.
  • Background or coursework in psychology, education, sociology, health sciences, or related field.
  • Experience with qualitative or quantitative research methods.
  • Prior experience in research or data management.
