Role Summary

The Test Engineering Technician will support the Test & Development Workshop and Engineering Teams. This role involves the use of tooling to perform mechanical and electrical repairs and modifications, works directly with various engineering teams to support testing needs and requires maintaining an organized and safe work environment. 


Responsibilities
  • Work with aftermarket data loggers, production telematics data collection, external data acquisition, sensors, systems, practices, and databases for vehicle measurement (thermal, strain, NVH, and digital networks, etc.)
  • Execute Vehicle level design validation (DVP) testing in a proving ground environment
  • Preliminary fault analysis and reporting (hardware and software)
  • Plan and execute vehicle tests with a focus on instrumentation and data collection
  • Liaison across multiple engineering departments
  • Install instrumentation, test equipment, and other components including thermocouples (Type J and K), strain gauges, accelerometers, and load transducers on prototype vehicles in accordance with engineering specifications, standards, and/or test procedures.
  • Maintain test equipment in operational condition by performing routine maintenance and making minor repairs/adjustments as needed
  • Plan, track, support, lead, execute, and report on full vehicle and sub-system development, validation, and homologation testing for multiple engineering teams, such as dynamics, powertrain, NVH, body controls, chassis durability, and others
  • Assist in vehicle test planning, software and calibration updates, data analysis, and control system data collection
  • Execution and documentation of specific portions of the vehicle and component DVP&R using Jira, Flow, and other Rivian proprietary tool sets
  • Instrumentation of test articles including installation of thermocouples (Type J, K and T), video cameras, strain gauges, accelerometers, load transducers, etc.
  • Create and modify test documentation including test work instructions, Rivian test specifications, and summary reports from vehicle testing projects
  • Perform vehicle tests at a proving ground or other off-site public/private test location that may include specific conditions such as extreme weather condition areas, off- road, remote urban, overseas, etc.
  • Specify and procure sensors and systems for all aspects of vehicle measurement (CAN, thermal, NVH, and others)
  • Perform subjective evaluations for remote design and engineering teams
  • Lead initial root cause analysis to solve issues found on vehicles at the proving ground or other off-site public/private test locations
  • Liaison across multiple engineering departments and multiple cross-functional teams

Qualifications
  • 3+ years in a similar role
  • Minimum of a high school diploma
  • Experience running and maintaining a variety of vehicle level and component level tests
  • Detailed experience working hands-on with in-vehicle data acquisition systems including installation, use, and data analysis
  • Strong technical and mechanical ability
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Strong communication, multitasking, & inter-personal skills
  • Familiarity with issue tracking tools a plus. (Jira, Confluence) preferred but not necessary
  • Valid driver license with clean record.Direct experience working with CAN, LIN, and Ethernet vehicle data networks, including debugging and reverse engineering
  • Proving ground and on-road / on-track experience preferred
  • Willing to travel up to of 10% of the time
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with an eye for detail and a focus on quality
  • Proven experience with at least 2 major vehicle systems (ie. Electric Powertrain, Chassis / Suspension, HVAC, Braking, etc.)
  • Team first mentality
  • Innate curiosity about all things automotive
  • Ability to work autonomously

Pay Disclosure

The Hourly pay range for this role is $32.54 - $40.67 for Arizona based applicants. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs.

The successful candidate may be eligible for annual performance bonus and equity awards.
