The Nutrition Department at Union Health is looking for a team member for the Terre Haute campus. We are looking for individuals who are compassionate, fully committed to providing the highest quality health care experience and dedicated to supporting their team who work in a fast-paced environment. The position ensures that all patients are well taken care of during their treatment according to their dietary needs and restrictions. A Nutrition Clerk serve meals to patients and assist in various processes related to the preparation and delivery of meals, also assists with nutrition services and may work in a number of roles depending on the facility needs.

Nutrition Assistant Essential Job Duties:

  1. Organizes and enters diet orders in computer in order to assemble correct menus for all patients.
    1. Inputs patient preferences correctly into Health Touch.
    2. Understands basic elements of good nutrition and modified diets when preparing patient menus. Can accurately use diabetic and renal exchange list. Ensures all non-selective meals receive adequate kcal/nutrients and meal components.
    3. Honors patient preferences, tolerances, and allergies when modifying menus.
    4. Effectively communicates with dietitians and nursing stations, volunteers, etc.
    5. Makes sure all patient menus correspond with diet ordered.
    6. Makes accurate changes in incorrect diet orders from Cerner in Health Touch.
    7. Communicates any problems with equipment with management and the appropriate help desk.
  1. Is knowledgeable regarding Hospital policies, procedures, and general information.
    1. Determines nutritional adequacy of marked menus, using basic four food groups.
    2. Accepts other duties as assigned. Knows opening and closing procedures, including temperature logs and sanitizing/cleaning procedures.
    3. Takes breaks within acceptable time limits, reports to work on time, and has good attendance record.
    4. Recognizes self-improvement needs and seeks assistance in meeting those needs through self-study and educational offerings.

Education, Training & Experience

  1. Must be accomplished in written and verbal communication.
  2. Previous experience in hospital nutrition department preferred but not necessary.
  3. Ability to work with personal computer.
  4. Flexible in schedule to meet the demands of the department.
  5. Certified Dietary Manager or Dietary Technician Registered
