Job description

Position: Operating Room Nurse Transition Residency

Department: Operating Room

Schedule: 40 hours (4 - 10 hour shifts, D/E/N rotation) for the orientation period.

Your permanent shift will be determined toward the end of the orientation period, based on the length of your orientation and departmental needs.

This position is part of the Operating Room Nurse Transition Residency Program. Participants are required to make a two (2) year commitment in their new practice area following the successful completion of the residency orientation, in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Boston Medical Center (BMC) is excited to announce the Operating Room (OR) Nurse Transition Program 2026.

Boston Medical Center has implemented a PeriOperative 101 program that incorporates the 'Nurse of the Future' Core Competencies. Nurses will be hired into the organization in small cohorts. The Transition Program Cohort will attend nursing orientation, matriculate though the operating room residency curriculum and remain together until they sit for a final exam for certification through the Association of PeriOperative Registered Nurses (AORN).

This program will provide the nurse specialized hybrid learning opportunities that include online modules, classroom didactic, hands-on skills and simulation lab sessions with clinical preceptorship in the operating room. The official transition date into the Operating Room will be Monday, September 21st.

EDUCATION:

Nursing degree: Diploma, ASN or BSN (preferred), Ability to obtain BSN within 4 years

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Licensed to practice professional nursing as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Requires current basic life support (BLS) certification

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Basic computer proficiency is inclusive of the ability to access, enter, and interpret computerized data/information.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to facilitate communication with various members of the health care team, patients, and families.
  • Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work.
  • Multilingual skills (beyond that of English) in languages appropriate to the patient populations served by the Medical Center preferred
  • Relevant clinical experience and/or specialty, certification is preferred for certain practice areas.
  • Analytical ability to solve clinical nursing issues and conduct quality improvement projects.

Compensation Range:

$38.05- $75.33

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, and licensure/certifications directly related to position requirements.
