Job description

Job Summary

This Nursing Informatics Specialist role supports the implementation and utilization of information systems required for patient care initiatives. The individual evaluates applications and vendors, provides technical training and support to end users, and ensures proper testing and validation of content and workflow. Experience planning and accomplishing goals, providing clinical and technical expertise during application implementation, and facilitating practice model education and communication are essential.

Travel is required, up to 75% of the time, to various Ochsner locations in the North Shore Region, including Slidell, Covington, and Hancock.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and facilitate projects through their entire lifecycle.
  • Lead the installation and testing of application enhancements and any necessary software upgrades.
  • Lead the design, presentation, and evaluation of educational offerings and materials.
  • Potentially lead the design of ongoing audit tools, serve as a resource regarding audits of open/dosed chart review, order entry, billing, and other automated functions.
  • Assist managers and/or users in problem identification and participate in problem resolution activities.
  • Provide ongoing reinforcement and clarification with management and staff regarding the effective use of the system.
  • Develop, utilize, and maintain required records for the departments, the organization, and other regulatory agencies, including monthly reports of project and educational activities.
  • Adapt communication and behavior to specific patient populations, ensuring privacy, appropriate introductions, and clear explanation of services or procedures.

Education

Required: Bachelorโ€™s degree in Nursing or Allied Health field.
Preferred: Masterโ€™s degree in Education or Allied Health field.

Work Experience

Required: 3 years of experience in a clinical practice setting, including two years supporting automated information systems, and experience teaching or presenting one-on-one, in group sessions, or to large audiences (including providers).

Certifications

Required: Current State of Louisiana Registered Nurse License.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information, including proficiency with Windows-style applications and keyboard use.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
  • Excellent time management skills.
Physical and Environmental Demands

The physical essential functions of this job include frequently exerting 10 to 20 pounds of force to move objects; occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds of force.
