What are nurse side duties and responsibilities?

Nurse side duties typically refer to the supportive and direct patient care tasks that nurses perform at the patient's bedside. These responsibilities include monitoring vital signs, administering medications, assisting with daily living activities, providing wound care, and maintaining patient hygiene. Nurses on the side also communicate with doctors, document patient information, and offer emotional support to patients and their families. Their role is crucial in ensuring the comfort, safety, and recovery of patients in various healthcare settings.

What are some common challenges nurses face when working in a side or support role within a healthcare team?

Nurses in side or support roles often navigate challenges such as managing high patient volumes while providing individualized care, balancing administrative tasks with direct patient support, and adapting to the needs of a multidisciplinary team. Since these roles typically involve assisting primary nurses or physicians, strong communication skills and flexibility are essential to ensure smooth workflow and patient safety. Additionally, side nurses may face emotional stress from supporting patients and families, making resilience and self-care important aspects of the role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a nurse aide, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Nurse Aide, you need a solid understanding of basic patient care, infection control, and vital signs monitoring, typically obtained through a state-approved nurse aide training program and certification (CNA). Familiarity with patient care equipment, electronic health records (EHR) systems, and safety protocols is important. Compassion, attention to detail, and strong interpersonal skills help Nurse Aides provide comfort and support to patients while collaborating effectively with healthcare teams. These skills and qualities are essential for ensuring patient well-being, safety, and high-quality care in healthcare environments.

Job description

Meadow Brook Rehab | Salt Lake City UT

$50-55/hour | PRN | Flexible Schedule | Therapist-Owned Company

Independence Rehab is hiring a PRN Occupational Therapist to join our team at Meadow Brook Rehab, Mount Olympus Rehab, and Spring Creek Healthcare Center. All three are located on the southeast side of Salt Lake City, UT.

We offer 5-10 hours per week for this position.

Whether you're a new grad or experienced OT looking for a PRN gig with clinical autonomy, this is a great place to grow and stay long-term.

If you're looking for a SNF role with stability, strong support, and protection from unrealistic facility pressure, this is a great fit. Independence Rehab is a small, therapist-owned company that manages therapy operations independently - meaning we advocate for our clinicians and value strong clinical judgment.

What Makes Independence Rehab Different

  • Low DOR / management turnover (stable leadership)

  • Strong corporate involvement + personalized support

  • Therapist-owned = real clinical understanding

  • Your clinical judgment is respected (autonomy matters here)

  • Flexible productivity expectations (realistic and sustainable)

  • Flexible working hours - family-oriented and balance-focused

  • Protection from facility pressure - we advocate for our therapists

  • Highly rated therapy company with strong outcomes and reputation

  • We run our own operations separate from the nursing side of the facility

Training + Onboarding

We don't believe in the \"sink or swim\" approach.

New therapists receive:

  • Strong integration and onboarding

  • 1:1 training for documentation and evaluations

  • Customized clinical training based on your experience

  • Ongoing mentorship and competency support when needed

What You'll Do

As the OT, you'll treat a geriatric population across SNF/Transitional Care Unit, including:

  • Functional ADL retraining and adaptive strategies

  • Transfer training (all levels)

  • Fall prevention and safety training

  • Treatment of clinically complex patients

  • Discharge planning and care coordination

  • Supervision of a COTA (as needed)

  • Collaboration with nursing, PT, ST, and facility staff

Requirements

  • Current Utah OT license in good standing

  • Degree from an accredited OT program

  • Organized, self-starter who enjoys the geriatric population

  • Ability to supervise a COTA

  • SNF experience preferred - but not required.

If you're caring, motivated, and licensed, we'll support your growth
